Why bring it up then?It shouldn’t, but yet it still does happen every time 4e comes up, despite how long it has been.
So until now, everything is fine.
Let's hope it stays that way.

Did you consider that you might be putting too much pressure on your players to optimise every last ounce out of the mechanics? For example, you say a player isn't enjoying weapon masteries. Well, rather than fiddling around trying to find synergies, they could choose the masteries that are easiest - I would suggest Graze and Push.Player making the comment was using forced movement and weapon masteries to use emanations and cleave+hew synergy.
Theyre kinda struggling with weapon masteries. 2/5 played 3E and 4E 2 are new and last ne doesnt really want to read abilities.

It's not like the outcome would be any different if they charged in willy-nilly.
Put that 4Eish in the bin with some character role playing rich adventures like this one!
Rogue does seem to be built around dual wielding Vex (for when you don’t otherwise qualify for sneak attack) and Nick (for when you want a cunning action). Very boring. But then I’ve never liked rogues in any edition. They were a rogue. Limited option on your masteries.
Other have also commented on masteries being annoying. Ive messed them up as well.
