This season of Torchwood (some spoilers)

I just had a marathon of Torchwood this evening. I watched from the second episode this season to the episode that reintroduced Martha (which just aired here tonight).

I have to say, I like this season more than the last. They are building the characters within the story for one (rather than having side stories that have nothing to do with the main plot). Every episode kept my interest through most of the hour.

I wonder if we'll have a full crossover with the Doctor this season. Supposedly Martha is in the last half of this season of Doctor Who. I could see the Torchwood finale leading into the concurrent episode of DW, something like last season (which was odd here in the US, because the episodes didn't synch as they were originally aired).

I agree that the overall quality is definitely better this season. I am getting pretty tired of "Jack wants to have sex with everything" sub"plot" that writer Davies keeps pushing... we get it already. Make it the focus of a couple of episodes or whatever, but you don't have to point it out nearly every time a new character is introduced... the show isn't more "adult" as a result, just repetitive and kind of adolescent.

Yeah, I kind of agree. THAT element seems to be more pronounced from first season (where EVERYONE seemed to be trying to have sex with everyone else).

That said, the whole Jack/James Marsters encounter at the beginning of the season was pretty well done. But having made the point, they don't need to keep hammering it.

It was in an issue in last night episode, the first Torchwood with Martha Jones. Martha talked to Yanto about Jack’s sex life and so did Martha and Gwen. It does get tedious and childish. I think it is interesting society has progressed to the point this kind f thing is neither progressive nor even transgressive, just kind of distracting and boring.

Aside from that, I liked the episode. It was good to see Martha in action and I wonder what other repercussions her time travels will have on her. And what is it about bugs from another world that attracts gray faced men.

Well, I do have to admit, that when he showed up back on Dr. Who, and kept hitting on everyone and everything, so that the Doctor had to keep going "Stop!" It was pretty funny. But now the point's been made.

Back to "Meat." My DM thought it was the most disturbing thing he had ever seen on television.

I agree. Perfect example of having it be an enjoyable partial focus of an episode. A couple of those types of things scattered throughout the season would be great, but not nearly every episode. It does indeed become downright boring, as someone here said.

I think the change to Owen is going to be the counter point to Jack's desires....

I can't wait to see how they explore Owen...though I am annoyed by the whole, he's as fragile as glass bit...

One dying to live...the other can never die....sweet.

I have really enjoyed this season so far.

I thought the fight between Gwen and Rhys in "Meat" was one of the most convincing fights I have ever seen between a TV couple.

But here's a question that I have: Why is Rhys so surprised to discover that Gwen's "special ops" job involves aliens? After all, remember, this is a word where the Daleks and the Cybermen went to war over the skies of London, where the Sickerak mother ship set up camp, again, over London, and where the world watched alien beings disintegrate the President of the United States on worldwide television.

If I were Rhys, not only would I not be totally surprised at Gwen's job, I'd be glad to know that SOMEBODY is doing it!
