the idea is a cleric who spends all of his time dealing with the magical abilities of his chosen diety. lemme know what you think.

abilities: wisdom determins the amount of spells a priest can cast, how strong of spells, how hard they are to resist charisma determines thier ability to turn undead, and is usefull for the priests AC bonus.

alingment: varied by deity. a priests alingment may be no mare than one step removed from the chosen deities.

hit die: d4

BAB: as a wizard/sorcerer

saves: good: will poor: fort and ref (as a wizard/sorcerer)

skills: 4+ int mod per lvl

class skills: as cleric, also add all knowledges

armor and weapon proficiency: priests are proficient with the use of no armor or shields, as they interupt the casting of spells. all priests are proficient with the quarter staff, dagger, club, light and heavy crossbow.

spells: the priest class casts divine spells, but unlike the cleric he does not need to prepare them for the day rather the priest casts his spells like a sorcerer not needing to prepare ahead of time. like the cleric the priest gains his spell casting abilities from his chosen deity, and must pray for them nightly. the priest class does not have a class spell list, like other classes. rather the priest gains his spells from the domains of his chosen diety. making the choice of their deity a very important factor on what spells they can cast.

domains: in addition to gaining the spells from thier chosen deity, the preist recieves the domain power from all of the deities domains. as well as their deities domains good priests are granted the domain of healing, evil ones destruction, and neutral may choose one or the other.

extra domains: due to thier devotion to magic, and preaching for their deity, it is inevitable that each priest will find his own way to relate their deity to the world around them. for this extra studying, the priest is granted an extra domain at 10th level, and every 5 levels after that.

spells per day: as a cleric (except for the +1 for each level just gets added into the normal spells per day, since all of the priests spells are domain spells.)

turn/ rubuke undead: the priest turns and rubukes undead as a cleric does.

AC bonus: the priest may aply his charima bonus to AC (nobody wants to hit a priest)

well for now this is what i have in mind it seems a little weak to me, but i guess the extra domain abilities will compensate for that. or what about some type of special holy symbol which acts like a wizards familiar? lemme know what you all think i was hoping to play this over the weekend. like always input is appreciated. thanx ahead of time for your help.:D

sounds pretty cool to me

But what is the main thing about clerics that everyone likes, they can heal!!! so the healing domain would be the only way to heal people. Mabye give him lay on hands for good deity, or same thing except inflict for an evil deity?

yeah i was thinking about that too...maybee give good priests the healing domain for free and evil one the destrution domain. and let neutral ones pick...i ll add that to the abilities...thanks

couple changes made...
1. access to the domains of healing and destrucion. (based on alingment)
2. spells per day changed to cleric advancement. except fot the +1 for domain spells clerics get is just added to the normal alotment for the day. this is because all of the priests spells are domain spells.

the change to cleric spells per day from sorcerer was mainly because i was looking at the advancement of both and decided it didnt make sense for a priest(who is supposed to be foccusing on the magic of his diety) to gain spell levels slower than a cleric. so i switched them to be equal.

It's still a little weak.

I'd add:
4 skill points per level, all knowledge skills should be class skills.

Rather than the healing/destruction stuff you could just give them lay on hands, and have it do damage for an evil priest.

I'd still add a couple more abilities beyond this given what you've taken away. You might look at the Contemplative from Defenders of the Faith.

A prestige domain at 10th level would be nice.
Divine Grace fits, as does Perfect Self.

ok how about due to their studying and preaching they find new ways to relate thier diety to the world. this grants them a new domain at 10th, 15th, and 20th levels. but the pc must provide why this new domain is relevant to his deity, and the final say comes down to the DM. this will prevent a good priest from saying "hmmm... the Destruction domain looks kinda cool." i was thinking about raising the skill points to 4 also since they dont spend time in combat, they should be more skill-full. i also like the adding of all knowledges so i will do that as well. if anyone has anyother suggestions, even bad ones lemme know i see hits but no replies. thanks ahead of time for you help.

It's impossible toi tell if its weak or not. How many domains do your gods have? That makes all the difference in the world. I have gods that have upwards of 8 domains becasue I use domains from many sources. With access to eight domains this is a very strong class.

there are goods with 8 domains? wow that is alot, and news to me...ok then there needs to be a limit to the number of domains. any sugestions? ok excluding the choice of healing or destrucion, and the bonus domains at 10th, 15th, and 20th, you get to choose a number of your deities domains equal to your wisdom mod +1. and if your diety has more than that number of domains, you extra domain at later levels must go to thosse until you have all of your dieties domains available. does this work?

I don't know what gods you are using so it's hard to say if it's balance by number of domains. I said my gods have upwards of eight domains. That's because I use few gods and have them each cover a larger area. So, what gods are you using?

i was just using the PhB gods, but i know there are more out there. i just didnt know that there were gods with so many domains. i havent seen any in the books ive read. the most i have seen is 6 with Ob'dai ( dont have book on hand forgive name butchering)...any way i am more than willing to limit the number of domains. any sugestions besides what i posted earlier?
