Shutter Island takes the number one spot but I was not sure what was being marketted, was it a horror movie or a crime drama or both? Avatar remained in the top 5, resting at number 3.

I am amazed that a ten week old movie is still clawing its way into the top three, when I even wondered if it had top five chances last week. Given what it has done with Wolfy and Percy, and that Valentine's Day is getting further away from its namesake date, it might keep a top five spot another week yet. Next week, I think Alice in Wonderland is a shoe-in for the top spot and Brooklyn's Finest might join the top five in its opening week, too, but aside from Shutter Island holding on to one of those spots, I just don't see what might knock Avatar out except its own running out of steam. Given what we are seeing this week, the cut off for top five status might be as low as twelve million next week.

Shutter Island is neither a horror movie, nor a crime drama. It really doesn't fit easily into a genre. I guess psychological drama with emphasis on its 50's setting would be the best description.
