THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

Gnomes! Gnockturnal Gninjas from the Gnertherworld

Gnomes are best described as blending the most striking features of Dwarves, Elves, Tigers, and Ninjas. They have been known to gun down hapless Orc Warbands from ambush using their magical machine guns, and then raising their bodies to serve as eternal undead thespians. Gnomes are hardcore awesome.

You, sir, win.

Just saying they could have redone the race from scratch doesn't cut it. If it was that easy ....

Attention!!

Gnomes DRAGONBORN are now cool. All the people who are cooler than you play gnomes DRAGONBORN. Roll up a gnome DRAGONBORN character now or be a loser forever!

Edited above to make a point. You can substitute the new horned outsider race as well.

What is published becomes truth because enough people repeat it and believe it to make it so.

The really sad thing about WoW Gnomes is that WoW Goblins do their schtick better.
You get no argument there.

but then again, I'm one of those "Goblins in the PHB" guys.

edit: Plus, Alliance sucks.

They have their fans, along with their haters.
Do they? I've never seen any. 'Meh' is by far and away the most common emotion.

You can tell that something is really popular by the amount of hate it generates online. Elves? Tons of hate. D&D? Tons of hate. Gnomes? Zero hate. No one cares enough about them to hate.

I'd never thought about it until now but I just realised I've played elves, a dwarf, a halfling, a half-elf and a half-orc (and also a catgirl, a medusa, an air elemental, a drider and a hadozee), but never a gnome.

I think your poll actually demonstrates how unpopular they are. 50% of ENWorld have *never* played one. Ever. And this is just about the most hardcore gaming crowd possible. People so jaded they need to combine 12 obscure splats just to get excited about a PC. And half of them have never even tried a gnome? Man, that's one big 'meh' there.

Thats it! I'm going to drive to the teams house and give them a good groin kick for not including gnomes!

By the time the books come out there WILL be Gnomes in it. We will take a note from Hackmaster and include Gnome Titans as a race and give it a Huge Roman type Empire that took over Thay durring the years between.

The Gnoman Empire will be the largest threat to the free world as well as the new center of learning, military knowledge and advanced mathmatics!

Yup. After all, Microsoft announced that Vista was the new big thing, and now everybody uses it. Every XP user rushed to get the new system, and not a single person who got Vista wanted to convert back...

...oh, wait a minute. That's not what happened at all.

If nobody finds dragonborn cool, or the new tieflings, then nobody will play them much after the initial release. Hype can create a whole bunch of impulse buying, but it can't drive long-term adoption. We'll see how the new races play out. We've already seen how gnomes played out.

If, of course, you accept what is essentially a publicity statement at face value. I don't do it with politicians, and I don't do it with people who want to sell me something.

Which I read as "I don't care what they say. I've already made up my mind and they are doodoo heads because they could have but they didn't and now they're lying to me."

Not trying to attack you, but I don't think your contributin much to the gnomish niche conversation.

Hype works with dragonborn and tieflings in part because they don't have a 30-year tradition of boring D&D players.
