Tiefling Paladin/Rogue

Really, look at the Samurai - Ronin build I suggested earlier, it can be pretty cool. You can build a mid strength, mid dex, high cha character with some neat tricks. You don't sacrifice BAB, and you get good Cha-based skills and bonuses.

If your intent on going Shadowbane Inquisitor, I'd suggest going human, half-elf (for low-light vision), or Aasimar (darkvision). Seems to me a tiefling would hinder the build.

Thank you. It is good to know that I am not alone in my utter hatred of the 3e changes to the Tiefling.

Well, you've all gotten my interest. If you don't use the 3e tiefling, give me a good substitute? :) I'm a lover of Planescape, but have never trusted my own game-rules-making abilities. I'd love to hear what you have in mind.

The unfettered class from Arcana Unearthed is also a good fit if you want increased skill points (4per level), some sneak attack damage, and no loss of bab. The great thing about the Unfettered class is the class receives bonuses to AC if wearing light armor, and a parry bonus = to its intelligence modifier
(subject to class level limits) against a single oponent.

A player in my campaign is a 5 level Paladin/ 4 level Unfettered/ 1 level Knight of the Pale,(PrC from Monte Cook)/1 level Shadowbane Inquisitor. The Character is really starting to shine now, and is very intresting switching from Spiked Chain to Greatsword and using the great Paladin spell list to wield wands as a front line healer.

I'd like to know what this is like as well.

That said, I recently discovered how horrifyingly dangerous power attack is with a Falchion. You crit regularly with that thing, and the power attack means that the damage is huge.

And it looks cool. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing in style.

Ever seen Improved Crit with a rapier? You get threats on 15+.

And what's that one prestige class that gives triple crit that stacks with improved crit :confused:? I think it's Disciple of Dispater, but I could be completely wrong. That means threats on 9+. Bring in the 3E Weapon Master from Sword and Fist, and we can get it down to 7+. Of course, that's quite a few conditions. It usually doesn't get any worse than the Improved Crit, but still that's a threat 30% of the time, which is pretty unsavory.

Mine is still in the planning stage. So far, I've mostly allowed my players to shift around ability modifiers a little to better fit the 2e tiefling. (The Cha penalty is the biggest issue, as 2e tieflings had a Cha bonus. So we generally shift the Cha penalty to Wis or, with other modifications, Str. I also tend to move the Int bonus to Cha.)

Still - here's what I'm planning:

Ability modifiers
Similar to the 2e tiefling (who had +1 Int and Cha, -1 Str and Wis). Since my 3e tiefling will be a +1 LA race, its sum total of ability modifiers will (probably) be positive.
Also, I might allow for some flexibility (within reason, mind); no need for all tieflings to have 100% identical modifiers (see SAs/SQs, below, after all).

Special attacks/abilities
No two tieflings need to have the same ones, necessarily. I'd like something like the table in the 2e Planewalker's Handbook (though probably not random) - except even more flexible (and balanced).
The 3e fey'ri (a FR elf-based tiefling) has some choice, too, BTW.

If I can figure out how to go about it, I might build half-fiend templates of varying LAs, too. Some of them might be stronger tieflings (or monster classes tieflings can optionally take).
