I think they're the ones who love to flame the WOTC boards as a sort of petty revenge thing.
I can share a similar experience. I emailed them about a month ago asking why the DMG II was brown instead of blue. I received a response that basically said that the colors were not set in stone; all books were for players and DMs equally. Then about a week later, a person in the know posted that the brown cover mockup is a mistake and the real cover would be blue.
As for customer service, I can relate. I work in technical support for dial up and DSL. I get blamed for the customers that receive viruses and download spyware
