Alerted by the Mature Themes Forum at WOTC (a forum that left even my mouth hanging open), a discovered Denev's Fury, from Relics and Rituals, page 66.

And you guys in Home Rules think MY spells are overpowered?!
You think Harm is overpowered?!

It isn't a wonder the Scarred Lands are scarred.
It's a wonder they are still THERE.

Nothing like a 9th level spell that kills EVERYTHING within a 2 MILE DIAMETER, in a one of the more respected d20 supplemental books. (Can we say atomic bomb?)
Where can MY characters get this kind of power?

Edena, at 121st level, could cast about 23 Destruction spells in a day.
That's 20 deaths, with no save (if you go by 1st edition standards.)
Poor Edena is a piker! Edena is a pitiful nothing!
With spells like THESE, you could level WATERDEEP or GREYHAWK CITY (with room to spare) with one spell!!!

And they call MY characters and spells munckinized?!
LOLOLOLOLOL!!!

5d6 wouldn't even be that effective against buildings, or people inside of them. If you took out a city with it, it would because of secondary fires.

Also, in terms of adventuring power, Denev's Fury is suicide because of the weak damage and side effects. Often, killing one powerful guy is worth more than killing 1000s of ordinary guys.

Pfft. For true mass destruction you need the Book of Vile Darkness. Apocalypse from the Sky - 10d6 damage (your choice type) for 10 miles per level (min. 170 miles since its 9th level).

But that material component is a PITA. :P

You know, I was thinking the exact same thing. Everything after that 121 just turned into Charlie-Brown's-Teacher sounds.

And yeah, heh - I agree with Maddman, Apocalypse from the Sky is just such a sweet citybuster. And since you're hunting down a corrupted artifact of good to cast it anyway and can cast 9th level spells... go ahead and make some Metamagic Rods while you're at it. May as well get the most bang for your buck. *nod*

....though you -may- want to invest in some elemental damage resistance gear before casting, too..

^_^

"I could never understand that level of committment to a single campaign, so I'll be content to use it to rationalize my mocking of a potentially legitimate observation."
