Lily struggled in the monster's grip, only to be surprisingly released as it disappeared and reappeared. As it dissolved Lith rolled onto it like a wave of writhing tentacles only to find empty space.

Thankful to be free of the thing once more, Lily slipped back away from it, while her shadowy companion burst into a small cloud of inky black bats with a multitude of red eyes and swarmed back onto its sibling shadow. Waves of blood thirst radiated from its fluid form.

[sblock=ooc]

On the shadow's turn, immediate interrupt to the teleport.
Spirit's Fangs: vs Ref (1d20+5=11) look, more missing.

I'm assuming that Lily is no longer grabbed based on the description of events.

move: Lily shifts to AS53, Lith moves to AR55

standard: Watcher's Strike: vs Ref (1d20+5=20)
if it hits: Damage (1d8+5=10)/2 = 5 Damage and until the end of Lily's next turn, she and her allies gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls and a +5 bonus to Perception checks while adjacent to her spirit companion.

reminder: Any of Lily's allies adjacent to her spirit companion gain a +3 bonus to their damage rolls against bloodied enemies.

[sblock=Lily's Spirit Primer (Please Read!)]
Spirit companions are complex critters, so this is to remind everyone, myself included, of the important points. The first three items are probably the most relevant to the other players.
  • Any of Lily's allies who start their turn adjacent to her spirit companion can shift 1 square as a free action, as the first action during their turn.
  • Any of Lily's allies adjacent to her spirit companion gain a +3 bonus to their damage rolls against bloodied enemies.
  • Lily's spirit companion occupies 1 square, Lily's allies may move through its space, but her enemies may not.
  • Lily's spirit companion may be targeted by melee and ranged attacks. If a single attack deals 10 or more damage to Lily's spirit companion it disappears and Lily takes 5 damage. Otherwise her spirit companion is unaffected by the attack.
  • Lily's spirit companion uses Lily's defenses.
  • Any enemy that leaves a square adjacent to Lily's spirit companion without shifting is subject its Spirit Fang attack. (This is an opportunity action and so may used once per turn, rather than once per round. Since there is no reason not to take this attack DM please feel free to roll them as necessary.)
  • Lily's spirit companion is unaffected by terrain and environmental phenomena.

Grim sees the shadow become indistinct, phasing in and out of existence. He chooses to fortify himself before resuming battle.

Carolina takes advantage of the creatures distraction from her allies; she walks up to it and again plunges her dagger deep into it.

Lily struggled in the monster's grip, only to be surprisingly released as it disappeared and reappeared. As it dissolved Lith rolled onto it like a wave of writhing tentacles only to find empty space.

Georg swings his staff to toss another ball of flame before moving carefully closer to the group.

Kruk squirms around to get into better position to attack: "Not a good idea to hold onto an angry dwarf with an axe!" He swings at the tentacles that are grabbing him, but can't hit the beast.

The creature howls in pain as the group's assaults affect it despite it's best efforts. Two tendrils strike out at Raiyek, one hits him, but the other is well wide of the elf.

The group then launches a furious counterattack the finishes off the beast, the shadow monster dissipates as it is stabbed/burned/spirit companions.

[sblock=OOC]
Raiyek hit for 5 damage... and that should just about do it. The foe had about 10hp left (and no more insubstantial), so if you really want to roll, feel free, but otherwise I'll handwave and it's dead.

Status:
Shadow - used 2 AP, shadow jaunt x2, bloodied, -117 hp
Grim - slowed and takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls (save ends both)

Georg - 21 - 9/30 - 8/9 surges, bloodied,
Kruk - 21 - 29/48 +12thp - 11/12 surges, grabbed
Bad Guys - 20 <- higher init mod.
Grim - 20 - 29/35 +5thp - 6/7 surges, +2 defenses TENT <- you're up
Carolina - 20 - 21/29 - 6/7 surges, +2 defenses TENT
Lily - 15 - 17/26 -9/9 surges
Raiyek - 13 - 34/39 - 10/11 surges

Kruk feels the grip on him loosen as he sees that the beast is dying. Kruk then swipes his axe, severing the remaining tenacles still attached to his body. "What the heck was that? I've never seen one of these before." He then sits for a few minutes in order to patch himself up a bit.

spend two more surges for 24 points to put him at full strength

that brings kruk down to 9 surges

Georg comes over to his comrades, unafraid to stand near Lily's spirit companion. A vile creature of the shadow realm. Fiendish and unintelligent but the other seemed to be inhuman as well, which does not bode well for what we will find at the end of our search.

[sblock=OOC] Georg will use 2 surges to go up 23 and if Lilith uses spirit healing I will try for one of her 1d6 bonuses[/sblock]

"Agreed, Georg," Raiyek says as he sheathes his sword. "This whole thing just keeps getting more and more sinister." The elf has a troubled look on his face for a moment, but then gets back to the here-and-now and searches the body of the unarmed human.
[sblock=OOC]Raiyek doesn't spend any surges because he only got hit once in this fight. What a good defender I've been >.>

Searching: 1d20+11=30[/sblock]

On the corpse of the necromancer is a necklace, a leather cord with silver keys hanging off it. Additionally, there's a note with him.

"I grow tired of their investigations. Take my gift and slay those adventurer's. They cannot be allowed to continue. They cannot be allowed to interfere, not when we are so close."

The man is missing his left eye, gouged out by the looks of it. Now looking at the humans around him they all have the same wounds[/sblock]
