Too late now, unlike with Florida where all we need is a cartoon rabbit who's outraged about the two cent bounty on his head and we can be free of the state forever.Dang it.. we had a chance to kick ohio out....

To be honest it's not really a field that's particularly useful to keep up with. The discipline of philosophy for the most part just a mix of mincing words, hippie nonsense, and highly questionable armchair speculation about subjects thst haven't yet recieved proper scientific and/or mathematical investigation. If anyone's going to solve the hard problem of consciousness it's going to come from neurology or AI research, NOT from philosophersI'm not familiar with philosophy, certainly not with modern developments, so it's possible there are more in depth discussion of the issue which account for my objection above, but that really seems wrong to me.
TIL: Hippos spend the majority of the day soaking in water or mud to keep their skin moist and bodies cool.
Tell me you don't know anything about philosophy without telling me you don't know anything about philosophy...The discipline of philosophy for the most part just a mix of mincing words, hippie nonsense, and highly questionable armchair speculation about subjects thst haven't yet recieved proper scientific and/or mathematical investigation.
Excessive harshness and severity are definitionally unethical and unfair. Unfair being a synonym for "unjust".Today (well, yesterday) I learned that some people think that excessive harshness and severity can't be handed out in an impartial and consistent manner, the wrongness of which I'd have thought would have been obvious from even a casual review of history or observing much of the world today, but here we are.
So I take it this is also the day you learned that some words have multiple definitions?Excessive harshness and severity are definitionally unethical and unfair. Unfair being a synonym for "unjust".
I can imagine a hippo with a hookah, but not with a ciggie. Perhaps cigar at a pinch.I initially misread that as "smoking" and for just a second thought hippos were cooler than I imagined
That was merely illustrative. If it's "excessive", it can't be fair.So I take it this is also the day you learned that some words have multiple definitions?
And this relies on the definition that "fair" must necessarily mean "just." But "fair" can also mean impartial, which itself doesn't necessarily connote anything related to justice. That was merely illustrative. If it's "excessive", it can't be fair.
Well, the author of the paper in question is "a computer engineer specializing in A.I. and reconfigurable computing", so I would also be a bit skeptical of AI research contributions. To be honest it's not really a field that's particularly useful to keep up with.
