Today I learned from the most recent episode of the Our Fake History podcast that in the original games at Olympia, all free men could compete and so a farmer could wrestle and defeat a noble or even king, and that Alexander the Great (after he made Macedonians into Greeks -- I also learned they were considered barbarians before Alexander) refused to compete in the games because "it was beneath him" and "he only competed against kings."

In my Greek game I have a Barbarian/Rogue player.
He's from far western Greece. Them and the Macedonians are "barely greek". Sort of a joke.

Macedonians and those silly try hards from Latium will never amount to anything. It's 432 BC.

I never realized (until today) that the band Sweet - which I considered a "two-hit wonder" due to "Fox on the Run" and "Ballroom Blitz" - also did "Love is Like Oxygen." I'd heard the song before, but never knew who sang it. And now I know.

“Love is like Oxygen” and “Ballroom Blitz” are my two favorite Sweet songs. “Fox” never really got me hooked.

A lot of people never knew Cum On Feel the Noize by Quiet Riot is a cover and was originally written by Slade
There’s a whole world of big songs from the 70s & 80s that many people don’t realize are covers. (And of course, that did not end back then- every decade has its share.)

Joan Jett covered “Do You Wanna Touch”; Blondie covered “The Tide Is High”; Nazareth covered “Love Hurts”, Krokus covered “Ballroom Blitz”; Tiffany covered “I Think We’re Alone Now”; Soft Cell covered “Tainted Love”; etc.

Didnt know most of these except for Krokus. A lot of people think that Harry Nilsson wrote "Without You", when in fact it was Badfinger. I actually got into an argument with a friend of mine who swore up and down the wall it was Nilsson

I knew that, but I can’t honestly say the last time I heard the original. Nilsson really captured that one.

(Close second version: Lenny Henry as Gareth Blackstock in Chef!)
