Today I learned +

I knew that, but I can’t honestly say the last time I heard the original. Nilsson really captured that one.
Yes, he did, but IMO it's almost like listening to two different songs. The guitar solo in the Badfinger version is pretty good and think it's one of the things that really sets to two apart. Funny, when I was a kid, I always thought Nilssons version was Anne Murray :ROFLMAO:

I never realized (until today) that the band Sweet - which I considered a "two-hit wonder" due to "Fox on the Run" and "Ballroom Blitz" - also did "Love is Like Oxygen." I'd heard the song before, but never knew who sang it. And now I know.

They had a ton of hits. I recently watched this and pulled the link from my Youtube history.

There’s a whole world of big songs from the 70s & 80s that many people don’t realize are covers. (And of course, that did not end back then- every decade has its share.)

Joan Jett covered “Do You Wanna Touch”; Blondie covered “The Tide Is High”; Nazareth covered “Love Hurts”, Krokus covered “Ballroom Blitz”; Tiffany covered “I Think We’re Alone Now”; Soft Cell covered “Tainted Love”; etc.
One that really caught me by surprise, some years back, was when I found out that the rather modern sounding (at the time) song "I Can't Break Away" by Australian band Big Pig (1987) was a cover of the song by Chuck Jackson (1973).

Fun fact about Harry, he never played live.

Amusingly, I’d never heard the cover!😀

And I never heard the original, despite my parents being big on Motown. One day I was trying to remember who did the song and did a quick Google search, and the original came up as something like the 10th result.

EDIT - If you've seen "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" then you have, in fact, head the cover.

And, following up on my previous post, it wasn't today but I did learn, quite a while back, that Alex Winter (Bill S. Preston from "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure") has had quite a career as a documentary filmmaker. He was making a doc at the University of Toronto, some years back.
