D&D 5E Tome of Beasts: Kobold Press' Monster Book in Waiting

The Tome Show has a couple of podcasts up on their website featuring interviews conducted at GenCon 2015. Among them is an interview with Wolfgang Bauer from Kobold Press. The link is here:

At the 3:54 minute mark he discusses a book of monsters that's on the Kickstarter launchpad awaiting a OGL/3PP license. The book features possibly 300+ creatures drawn from the Southlands setting and the Midgard setting among other past KP works. He mentions the desire to make this new book, entitled Tome of Beasts, a hardcover and that KP has gone so far as to commission new art in the expectation of some forthcoming usable license for 5E. From listening to the interview it is glaringly obvious Wolfgang and his crew at KP want to desperately support 5th edition but alas he fears, and rightly so, a cease-an-desist order. I sincerely hope we get to see this book sometime soon; in fact, I was throwing money at my computer as the podcast played in the hopes that that would make this new book get published faster but that, unfortunately didn't work.

How come they just put out that Southlands character options book for 5E if they're so worried? Or is that small enough that they don't mind if it gets pulled?

I wonder if that was fulfilling a Kickstarter promise or something. Or testing how well they could do it under the OGL.

That's pretty much what Wolfgang said, somewhere in the podcast. But he wouldn't take a chance with a big Kickstarter project like the Tome being C&D'd.

We've smashed 5 stretch goals and are nearly to the 6th!

The latest update:
C is for Coral Drake: Swimming upright, this creature seemingly peels itself from the vibrant seascape before striking with needle-thin claws, shredding teeth, and a wickedly curved stinger.
Like a piece of moving coral, this drake’s coloration and scale patterns change to match nearby anemones, corals, seaweed, and urchins. This adaptation allows the creature considerable stealth in its natural habitat. It avoids combat if it can, preferring to hide and protect its young. Long serrated spines stretch from the coral drake’s body, waving in brilliant colors against a blue sea.
