Tome of horrors for 3.5?

Does it really need a 3.5 update? I mean, its not like there is a huge difference between the 3.0 and 3.5 monsters.

Damage reduction and # of feats are two spots I can think of off the top of my head that often need correct. This doesnt' count lycanthrope changes and some base changes to creatures to pump them up. Quite a few monsters from the original Monster Manual received a large steroid pump for their 3.5 counters.

In short, a 3.5 update would be swell.

Arguably, monster stats was one of the areas of the game with alot of changes in 3ER. But few players would really notice that a monster they face does not have the correct amount of skill points or feats. In a 3ER home game, you'd be certainly able to use a 3E monster with little problems, the biggest one propably damage reduction.

I believe Scott said that the Revision Update is basically done, but some unnamed issues prevent it from being posted.

Well, I hope they either make a web expansion similiar to what Wizards of the Coast did for Monster Manual II ando ther books, or come out with a new book.

me too! :)

and i think people on this thread are discussing two entirely different books at the same time. note the thread title "TOME" of horrors is not the "TOMB" of horrors.

a-yup, that's what i keep hearing. i think they're trying to decide whether or not they can re-release it as a hardcover (their original deal with WotC may indeed prevent second usage), or if they should just go with a PDF. there is some strong demand for a re-release and i don't think NG wants to ignore that possibility. *(none of this is "inside information" - merely my own personal speculation) :D

If they did another hardcover, I hope they would learn from the mistakes of Creature Collection Revised and use better art more. Not the same crappy art enlarged to bulk up the book, but new art for about 75% of the material.

And, uh... that's really it. Things like BA/Grap and skill points is insignificant.

That's not really "3.5", and is completely unnecessary in any case.

I generally agree with Dragonlancer - a 3.5 update beyond what is already available on the web isn't necessary (and sounds like a waste of resources, considering how easy it looks to be for home users to take care of the minor changes).

It could be WoTC might balk at a re-release and the license was only for a one-shot printing.

When ToH was published, outside of a few monsters, the staff at Necromancer was told that Wizards would not ever be publishing any official versions of the monsters, but then later they ended up putting some of their own versions in MM2 and FF. I think the various regime changes at Wizards might have left staff who balk at that. And why would WoTC want to have competing stats for the same monsters.

Scott has actually said that he would like to re-release it. And he has pointed out where 3.5 is very problematic for many of the monsters contained therein on some thread over at the Necro boards.

Aaron.

Scott and Erica, the two primary authors of ToH (TOME of Horrors) have done a lot of updates. The best way to get these "as official as it gets updates" is to go to the necromancer message boards and look for the links to Scotts Website in the ToH threads, or own Bonegarden and Durbenford and use the passwords to download the ToH monsters updated for those two modules. Heck, these ToH downloads may not even require a password.

Necro may even have a link to these downloads from their main website. I also know that the author of Bonegarden has the ToH monster download for his module available at his website.
