Too late for GenCon?

Mods - I'm not sure if this is the right forum for GenCon questions, but nothing else looked really suitable. If there's a problem, obviously feel free to move it.

Does anyone know if it's too late to go to GenCon? And basic information? The website is acting really funky for me right now (crashing IE randomly kinda thing), but I've just had all my plans for this next week dashed [the last few hours have really sucked,) and I'm really thinking of just saying "screw it, I'm going." So any information would be great. Also, what day are the ENnies?

GenCon is from 24th to 27th July. You can get a pass on site, it will cost $60 for 4 days - I think a one-day pass is $23. You may have trouble finding a hotel room. I think there are a couple of people here who may have some room available. Other than that try Ramada.com - they should have hotel rooms available about 6 or 8 miles away for $50 - $60 (the city centre costs about $110+ per room).

My budget is up to about 2k, so I could manage nights in the city centre - I can't rent a car, so I'd lose almost the difference in taxi fares anyway (plus I'm not too comfortable with taxis.) Thanks for the information on the pass - I'm really thinking about this, especially since I managed to find round trip tickets for around $500.

I'd say go for it! Cog gave you the basics, and the ENNIES are Friday night.

Even if you haven't preregistered for any games, you have a decent (not great, but decent) chance of getting into a few games if you show up with a generic event ticket, plus all the seminars are cool. And of course, there's the exhibit hall.

Hope to see you there!

I'd not even stress about not playing in games. Booths, seminars, and a chance to meet lots of people. Much better than my other plan of "sitting at home with no friends." Thanks for the "go." Makes me think I can actually do this.

I'd book a room quick then. :) I believe that the Embassy Suites and one or two others are already fully booked.... If you arrive Weds, then go and get your passes then - you can get them from 5pm.

That's what I'm looking into. I can't do anything tonight, because... well, because of various reasons, but I can make arrangements tomorrow morning if need be. I'll also see if any ENWorlders are looking to share the cost of a room.

FWIW, I have two extra rooms booked in the vicinity of the convention.

One is at the Adam's Mark Indianapolis Downtown which is about two blocks away from the convention centre.
Estimated price for hotel stay: 537.00 Dollar (U.S.) (additional taxes and charges may apply) Reservation from Thursday, 24 July 2003 to Sunday, 27 July 2003

T'other is the Hampton Inn Suites, Indianapolis Downtown, also within a few blocks of the centre. I think that hotel is only $130/night + taxes. Thursday to Sunday as well.

Anyhoo, if anyone needs a room, they're welcome to pay me cash (in advance) for the room (or I'll see about transferring "ownership" of a room from me to someone else). Give me a holler if interested.
