Top 20 monster minis wish list

Felon

First Post
Y'know, I like to gripe abuot the DDM skirmish game getting in the way of WotC producing useful minis for the RPG side of D&D--and it's a legitimate gripe, the RPG should come first--but truth be told, they've done a pretty nice job of meeting my monster needs as a DM.

Now, does anyone know what the screening process is for deciding which minis go into a set? Because if anyone who is in on making that decision is around and visits these boards, I want to throw out my wish list for the 20 monster minis most like to see:

  • Aspect of Hextor (really I'd like to see a few every set)
  • Avolakia (undead-eaters from MMII)
  • Cloaker
  • Desmodu (they got a bum rap from some bad artwork--and hey, DDM fans, they're good guys)
  • Dire Werewolf (I want a werewolf that’s big n’ scary)
  • Grisgol (magic-item golem from MMIII)
  • Kua-toa (a good one, darn it)
  • Nezumi (ratfolk from OA)
  • Phaerimm (the ultimate FR BBEG)
  • Psurlon
  • Roper (lack of mobility makes it DDM-unfriendly I’d guess)
  • Rot Reaver (from MMIII)
  • Rust Monster (probably a pipe dream, since it wouldn’t work in the DDM)
  • Slaad, Death (How much ass would this kick? Lots!)
  • Slaad, Grey
  • Spell Weaver (six-armed spellcasters from MMII)
  • Troll, Cave (MMIII)
  • Troll, War (MMIII)
  • Wemic (another one for the good-guy team)
  • Witchknife (mean, bossy little buggers from MMIII)

Don't know when or if we'll see more Hug minis, but in case they do, here's my top picks:

  • Aboleth (a classic D&D boss monster)
  • Cadaver Collector (MMIII)
  • Deepspawn (not just classic, but the quintessential boss monster)
  • Giant, Death (cool-looking & interesting race from the MMIII)
  • Giant, Eldritch (equally cool-looking & interesting race from the MMIII)
  • Gorynych (from Lost Empires of Faerun--think Ghydra from the Godzilla movies)
  • Hullathoin (walking undead factory from the FF)
  • Hydra (how can they NOT make a hydra?)
  • Mountain Troll (heavy-hitter from MMIII)
  • Tomb Tapper

And if they get in a serious habit of doing tiny minis, I'd also love to see meenlocks and stirges.

So, who else has a wish list cooked-up?

How many heads would you like to see on that hydra?? ;) I know my players in my group that I DM really like to see an actual representation of creatures. We have a plethora of minis and some are so bland. I think stirges would be a great mini to have. I recently threw a handful of dice on the battle mat and called them stirges!

Any idea where I can find a good bunch of gnome minis? I am looking for a wizard in particular.

Felon: I bet a couple of those you are asking for will be in the next set "underdark" (slaad, phaerimm).

The tomb tapper is indeed, huge, so you'll have to wait on that. Also, in Lost Empires of Faerun, the Phaerimm now have age categories, so there is a phaerimm for sizes tiny to huge.

As for what I want - anything huge, gargantuan, or colossal size. :)

My dad owns an old (over 20 years) Hydra mini. Poor thing has a head that doesn't like to stay on.

I haven't seen any good Warforged minis are there any?

I wish there were some non-colectable/random minis that were put out. I like their minis, but I hate having to sink a ton of money into a random picking.

I have a lot of cool unpainted minis, though I need more dwarf minis, a few half-orc minis, and some gnome/halfling minis (They're somewhat intertchangable like Humans/Elves/Half-elves are, not perfect but close enough).

The Warforged Wizard in Deathkneel looks good, there was also 2 warforged in Giants of Legends (fighter and titan) and Aberrations has the Warforged hero. The only one who's sculpt I don't care for is the Fighter. There probably won't been any singles or blister packs (it themed box sets) until the CMG craze drops off, and even then WotC might just drop the plastic figs all together.

I think it would be nice to see seige engines and maybe some loose weapons or even treasure piles. It has been mentioned by DaveMage already but the Huge + sizes would be nice to see as well.

Maybe a bunch of tiny and dimunitive minis for familiars and the like. Of course it would be hard to put just a sinle mouse or weasel into mini form.

If they really want to do tiny familiars right, they should be attachable to wizard/sorcerer minis. :)

"Just stick it on!"

Most of the tiny minis are small enough to fit on the medium bases already, aren't they?

As for what minis I'd like to see, I'd prefer they focus on the iconic D&D monsters before getting into all the unusual ones that can be found in all the non-Core monster rulebooks. Once the core monsters are done, then go hog-wild. I'd especially like them to maintain this focus for the huge minis, which we haven't see enough of to-date.

My Top 20 Minis Wish List (in no particular order):

1. Avolakia- weird lookin' freaky beasties! Also, I've gotten some good use out of them in the past, so a mini would be perfect.
2. Spawn of Kyuss- an old favorite.
3. Rust Monsters- scare the hell outta your players!
4. Disenchanter- see above.
5. Intellect Devourer- when I was a kid I had a fantastic mini for an ID. I miss that brain on legs!
6. Medium Spider- we don't have nearly enough vermin.
7. Giant Ants- see above. Perfect as a common.
8. More Mounted Minis- heck, I'd like to see one every set or two.
9. Goblin Worg-Rider- yeah, this goes along with 8 above, but it deserves its own mention. (Large uncommon?)
10. Ankheg- death from below!!
11. Cloaker- death from behind!!
12. Mimic- death from glue!!
13. Giant Fire Beetles- still more vermin.
14. Dry Lich- ooh, this is a cool one!
15. Grisgol- yeah, it looks cool enough to deserve a mini. Love this guy!
16. Giant Praying Mantis- again with the vermin, but perhaps the freakiest lookin' of the MM vermin...
17. Succubus- sultry, sexy and prepainted!!
18. Living Spell- I'd prefer a fireball, but a living stinking cloud or something would be very cool too.
19. Demilich- hell, let's do the ultimate tiny monster!
20. Anything Pseudonatural- isn't it about time for this?

Now, as to Huges, I have been chomping at the bit for a while for some more. I'd like to see, among other things, a huge vermin (spider, centipede, whatever), an aboleth, some more dragons, Orcus (I don't even know what size he really is off hand, but he seems like he should be huge), a huge elemental, an iron golem, a hydra and some more giants.

Oooh, and looking over Felon's list, I'm gonna concur on the roper, the cadaver collector and the phaerimm (even though I don't play FR, I can always use the monsters).
