Stuff I have collected for use over the years-

Megabloks dragons that come in eggs. Wal-mart and K-mart have/had them. Multiple colors and designs. Sizes Large to Garg.

Cheap DnD / Monster figure packs that can be found at dollar stores and Rite Aid drug stores. Have dragons, cages (perfect for figures) and small walls and ruins.

Plastic fantasy and "real life" animals I get at the local book store and Michaels art / craft supply stores. Recently I got a "huge" sized 4 headed 3e Hydra, a 2-headed green dragon and dire sharks and Garg scorpion. Prices are between 4 and 15 dollars. That is where that huge minotaur was found. I've been meaning to buy him but seem to always get a dragon instead.

Hard to get now but- Yu-Gi-Oh figurines.

McFarlane dragons

Other Sci-Fi and Horror figures. One had a black wolf of Huge size which I keep.

Hero / Horror clix (got a Predator Horror box set coming) :p

Starwars miniatures.... I like the creatures and use some of the less known jedi / sith as Kalashar people for Eberron games

and I'm sure I'll think of other stuff in a bit.

I recently acquired a pack of "giant spiders" from the dollar store. Way better than most of the DDM stuff, to be honest.
I think the Dragoneye #54 Large Monstrous Spider had some good detail and is definitely better than most halloween party favors and such. Though not so much better as to justify the cost of that DDM spider. :uhoh: You definily get much more spider for your dollar at Dollar stores, Halloween stores and Toy stores at which $20 will land you an Army or Kingdom of the spiders. Learning stores, Craft stores and museum gift shops are also going to beat the price though the dollar per spider ratio will be lower, with quality per spider being higher.

I've used the Jenga blocks to good effect when building a scene. Pictures of one of them can be seen via the link in my signature. I put a lot of poster putty to use to keep things in place so I can store my Tact-tiles vertically with the whole scene on them, waiting to spring it on the players.

I've borrowed from several kids classes where I volunteer, and they have some great stuff for use in a game. McFarlane dragons have some great detail and are the perfect scale for those gargantuan encounters. I have used Heroscape minis and various pieces from dollhouses (not the pink or frilly pieces).

Decoder rings and toys along that lines for spy games.

Cheap texting toys for sending messages to the DM in secret or even just using your ceil phones. The former wouldn't cost as much in the long run.

The cheapest and least distracting way to send a note to the DM is called a notepad and a pencil. Trust me, this has worked for years and is still a darn cheap way of doing it.
