Traipsing Across Khorvaire - High Adventure in Eberron

Aalic releases the whip from Vandane's leg. Seeing that the Kravith has Vandane in check, Aalic moves towards the closests desecending boarder.

If possible Aalic will try to board the other ship if they are close enough for him to use his whip to board. Otherwise he will move to cover to avoid being hit by a crossbow bolt. When a person starts to descend he will try to slice the man open before he makes the deck of the Cloud Dancer.

You dive and roll through a shower of crossbow bolts, some of which you feel brushing your skin and sticking into the deck beneath you. You try to tumble [Tumble roll= 12+11= 23, DC=25, AoO provoked]by one the pirates, but you are not quick enough and he stabs at you. Fortunately, you slip out of the way of his blade and come up on your feet behind him.

The pirate has dark skin and hair. You would guess that his clothes were of fine quality at one time, but they aren't anymore. His wool tunic and pants are colored scarlet trimmed in gold and black. It is frayed and worn in several places. Tattered silk outlines the ends of his sleeves and collar. Around his arm is a white band decorated with a skull imposed on an upside down blacksmith's hammer.

He snarls and begins to spin to face you when you both see a gray cloak swirl up. It is Davik on the other side of the pirate. He has his half spear out and has a look of grim resignation on his face. From what you know of him, you guess that he thought that fighting was behind him and he was looking forward to a quiet retirement. The pirate grins suddenly.

"It takes two of you to beat me, does it? You aren't half as good as you look, and unfortunately for you, I'm twice as good as I look."

You lean back and snap your whip at his blade in an attempt to disarm him [AoO provoked]. He slices at you barely missing your torso. [Attack roll (you)= 8(roll)+5(BAB)+2(flanking)+2(whip bonus)= 17 vs. Attack roll (him)= 1] Easily grabbing his sword, you jerk it away from him. It lands about fifteen feet away.

His confident front seems to wilt. He looks about wildly, weighing his options and then makes a break for his sword [AoO provoked]. You snap your whip at him [Attack roll= 11+5= 16] and easily hit him, however his leather armor stops your blow from doing any damage. Davik stabs at the pirate and blood begins to stain his breeches. The pirate grabs his sword and comes up, smiling once more.

"You've had your fun; now play time is over. Prepare to be defeated by Bruthin the Bold!" He assumes a defensive posture and awaits your move.

If you decide to gain the deck of the Iron Hammer, there are two ways to do so. Your first option is to climb the knotted rope, that "Bruthin the Bold" came down. The DC= 5. The faster and more heroic way is to run, swing on one of the dangling ropes to gain enough height to wrap your whip around some part of the Hammer, and swing yourself up. That would require an Attack roll against AC 5 to get your whip in place and then a Tumble check against DC 25. Doing it that way will net you a temporary action point to be used anytime this scene.

Aalic brings his fine elven sword to his face in salute. "Another day Bruthin the Brute, for today you are full of hot air!" And Aalic leaps back (fighting defensively [+2 AC, -2 Attack] & proviking an attack of oppurtunity) running towards the rope and letting go with a crack of the whip to attach to the Iron Hammer (+5 BAB -2 Atk = +3 Atk) and then swinging up to the Iron Hammer. (Tumble check)

As Aalic swings up he will look to see how the fight progresses on the deck of the Cloud Dancer. Looking for the Kraken Guards, Davik, and Yothcare.

Running through Aalic's mind at this moment is thank the gods that those bolts missed. The only way to slow the fight and give the dancer time to fend off the this attack is to get damage this other ship somehow. Trying to think of a way to damge the Iron Hammer in such a way.

Bruthin makes a quick swipe at you, but distracted by Davik’s spear, he misses. You run and grab one of the dangling ropes, your momentum carrying you up in the air. Lashing out with your whip, you easily attach it to the other ship [Attack roll= 19+3= 22, AC 5, success]. Knowing that this is the critical part, you clear your mind and focus. Your body continues to swing forward and up from the momentum of swinging on the rope, though you have released it and are now gripping your whip tightly. Coming up body parallel to the ship, you twist in the air and grab a pole sticking out from the deck of the Iron Hammer. As you twist around the pole, you release your whip with a flick of your wrist. With a soft grunt, you hit the deck of the pirate ship and roll to your feet [Tumble roll= 17+11= 28, DC 25, success].

Exhilarated you look around. The ship seems almost empty with most of the crew having boarded the other ship. You see the pilot staring at you, jaw hanging down his chest. At the sound of heavy footsteps behind you, you spin and come face-to-face with a monstrosity. It is nearly seven feet tall and powerfully built. The creature is wood and iron, enchanted somehow to be flexible enough for movement. Carved on its iron chest plate is an upside down hammer overlapped by a skull. Looking up at its humanoid head, you see that the creature is missing its jaw; all that is left is a few strands of some supple material where it would have hinged on its face. Above that, cold green eyes bore into you. This is the warforged captain, Thorn.

“So, one of you foolish fleshmen has the courage to face me.” His voice is monotone and hollow. He draws the scimitar from the scabbard at his waist. Softly glowing yellow runes are carved into the blade.

[Initiative roll= 20+4= 24] You act before he does.

"Well Captain, Maybe another day." As Aalic bows to the warforged and moves to engage the pilot at the helm.

At all costs Aalic will avoid the warforged. Aalic figures the more distance between himself and the captain the better. And besides the only way to disable the ship is to take care of the pilot. If need be Aalic will kill the pilot. Seeing this maybe the only way to disable the Iron Hammer. (This is for the better good for the Cloud Dancer.)

You turn and run from Thorn. You feel the deck shake with each of his footsteps as he begins the chase. The helm is on a raised platform toward the fore. There is a set of steps leading up to it, but you take the quicker route of hopping up and climbing over the railing.

As you get over the edge, you see the pilot let fly with a dagger. It grazes your arm (1 hp of damage). The pilot is a half-elf slightly shorter than you and thinner than a Cyran refugee. His face is riddled with scars and he is missing and eye. A red cloth is tied around his head and swirls out behind him. His clothes are dirty and unkempt. He draws a battle axe from his belt and moves to engage you.

Quickly moving your whip into your off hand, you draw your thin blade. The two of you twist and turn, thrusting, slashing. Neither of you can seem to get through the other's defense. [Attack roll (you)= 6+6= 12, miss; Attack roll (pilot)= miss].

Out of the corner of your eye, you see Thorn come running up the steps.

Next round:
Aalic
Thorn
Pilot

As Aalic sees his advatages slipping away. He will try to move to a position where only the pilot can engage him. Forcing Thorn to wait. With a slash aimed (no called shot, just adding details) at the pilots throat meant to kill the man. Aalic lunges with extra care (use an action point).

The platform you are on is roughly 10' by 10'. The magical wheel that allows people with the Mark of Storm to control the ship is the only thing on the platform. A waist-high rail circles the platform. The base of the platform is about 6' above the deck of the ship.

In an attempt to keep Thorn away from you, you move into a corner of the platform opposite of the stairs. The pilot stays with you and now you have him and the wheel forming a makeshift wall between you and the warforged pirate.

"Thorn's goin' ta gut you, boy." says the pilot with a grin that says he is anxious to watch.

You continue trading blows with the half-elf. He is obviously less skilled than you and after a moment you see an opening. As he slashes downward toward your torso you twist feeling the rush of the axe as it passes by you. He is just slightly off balance at this point and you take the opportunity to use your off hand to knock his arm aside. Your sword arm then comes up and across, the sharp edge of your sword opening his neck and spilling his life blood to the deck. The pilot tries to say something but nothing comes out but a sickly gargle of spit and blood.[Attack roll= 19+6(attack bonus)+2(action die)= 27, Crit Threat roll= 20, Crit; Damage roll= 5+2= 7*2= 14]

You still have a move action; what do you do?

Sorry to post here Starman, but I was looking for your e-mail address and could not find it. I was wondering if I could join in your game?

Marius.

Hi, marius. Thanks for your interest. I suggest you keep an eye on the OOC discussion thread (found here). I'm not recruiting on the boards at the moment. I have trouble finding time to get some face-to-face gaming in so I'm trying to convince some of my friends to join my game here.

That said, if they are unwilling, I will probably post here on the boards for a few more players. When I do that, it will be in the OOC discussion thread. If you'd like to drop anymore comments there, feel free.
