Traipsing Across Khorvaire - High Adventure in Eberron

Kravith stirs as you hollar at him. His head is damp with blood. With your help, he is able to stagger to his feet. He looks around and sees the body of Vandane. The captain shakes his head, a sad look in his eyes. "He was a good man."

Dodging falling objects, you make your way to the ladder heading up. The half-elf captain is still shaky and requires your help moving, especially with the sloped floor. As you begin climbing up, he mutters an oath and asks, "What is going on?"

"The Cloud Dancer's elemental ring was damaged by the Iron Hammer. The Cloud Dancer is tilting and going down. All the passengers are on board the Iron Hammer. We have temporary truce with the pirates." Saying as honestly as possible.

"We have to get on the Iron Hammer or else we are going to go down with her. And don't give me this 'the Captain goes down with the ship.' I didn't kill a man and rescue you, so I could die 3000 feet above the ground." Stating with some scorn and mockery.

"Vandane betrayed you and the passengers. Your responsibility is to those passengers on the Iron Hammer." Nodding to the Iron Hammer.

"So get your butt moving and get on the Iron Hammer. So I don't have to drag you up to it!" Aalic will say with force.

Kravith stops momentarily and gives you a look. "Are you through? I know my responsibilities. I don't intend to go down with my ship. I intend to pay Thorn back for what he has done, though I wonder just how he let this happen. He must be getting sloppy."

He continues to move as quickly as he can, although not as quick as you would like. The captain is obviously in a lot of pain. The two of you manage to make your way to the top of the ship. You see that the last of the passengers are just beginning to climb up to the Iron Hammer. The roguish half-elf stares in shock at the scene around him. "Oh, my..."

You move over to the rope lines. Some of the crew of the Cloud Dancer cheer at the sight of their captain. He looks up and shaking his head, begins to pull himself up. You are just about to follow him up when you hear a scream from above. Looking up, you see a blur of movement and then you are knocked off your feet. Above you stands the warforged, Thorn. His cold gaze pierces you and his hollow voice is death.

"I told you fleshling that I would kill you. Did you think I would lie?"

"Go get on the ship!!" Aalic will yell to the passengers and captain.

"Alright Thorn you wanted a fight. I will grant you what you want. Know that your death awaits you." Aalic will state as he rolls out of the way (tumble and fight defensively) and gets to his feet. In the same motion he will pull his sword with his strong hand and his whip with his weak hand. (At all cost Aalic will try to stay out of Thorns way this first round.)

You quickly roll away from Thorn [Tumble roll= 14+11= 25, success] preventing him from assaulting you on the ground. You come up behind some debris from the wreckage above granting you some cover [+4 AC] from the warforged pirate. As the creature of metal and wood charges, you get your weapons out to defend yourself.

Thorn runs at you and nearly knocks you off your feet as he plows through your cover and cuts you down your torso with his glowing scimitar. [Attack roll (him)= success; Damage roll = 6] He nearly loses his own balance after his charge, but manages to stay afoot.

Even in the heat of battle, his voice is still a hollow monotone. "You see. You are weak."

Aalic will attempt to grab some debris, ash, sand, or something else and attempt to blind Thorn with it. Aalic hopes a little luck will be with him. (Use an action point.)

Not waiting to see if it works or not Aalic will dart past Thorn. Running towards the ropes of the ship hanging down.

Picking up a handful of dust, you fling it at Thorn's face. The warforged grunts in surprise as it gets in his eyes. [Attack roll= 11+5 (attack bonus)+4 action die)-4= 16, success]. You quickly take the opportunity to get to the ropes and prepare to climb up.

Thorn is distracted trying to wipe the dust from his eyes. Once he is done he looks around until he notices you about to go up the rope. "No," he yells. "I will have you!"

You hear the people above you shouting encouragement. You also hear wood cracking. It sounds like the Cloud Dancer is getting closer to breaking free of the Iron Hammer. The fire on the Hammer is still going, but seems to be coming under control.

Aalic will start to climb the rope as fast as possible. (Make climb check to climb faster - also if possible do double move so I climb the entire round.)

"Another day Thorn! I promise another day!" Aalic will state with some excitement as he feels as though he has escaped for the moment.

Your momentary elation is short lived. As you begin to climb the rope the Dancer shudders and you can't get a good grip on the rope, especially trying to be hasty. [Climb roll= 3+2-5= 0, failure]. You try again, but your frustration gets the better of you and you again fail to make progress up the rope. [Climb roll= 1+2-5= -2, failure]

Above, someone hollers, "Grab on and we'll pull you up!"

Before you can do that, though, Thorn runs at you, scimitar coming down in a series of quick slashes. Without your own blade out, you are left to your own footwork to stay out of the way. Unfortunately, you feel warm blood flow down the side of your face as he opens a gash above your ear. [Attack roll (Thorn)= success; Damage roll= 4]

Next round:
Aalic (HP=2, Action Points=4)
Iron Hammer crew
Thorn

"Olladra grant me good fortune." Aalic swears as he is sliced by Thorns sword. Aalic will attempt to climb the rope once again. As he hurries up the rope. (Faster movement up the rope. Spend an action point to improve AC.)
