Transformers TTRPG

I have been a Transformers fan for decades and my wife recently got into the show too. We've been seriously nerding out, creating OC's, fan-fiction, fan-art and so on, and as long-time D&Ders, we have been wondering if there's a Transformers TTRPG. We're not very impressed with the video games, and we haven't found anything official (unless it's very obscure). If there's nothing official, here's what we're looking for in a system to appropriate:

-Something that is compact, we're not interested in learning convoluted, obscure or bloated systems. Something that can give us some straight-up character stats, some basic die for weapons and allow us to roll out from there.

-Preferably d20, using the common 7 die. Ties in with lacking the time or desire to learn an unfamiliar system.

-Low-maintenance, we don't want to have to stop every few minutes to evaluate if a rule is broken or not.

-Something that supports melee and ranged combat, but ideally doesn't rely on a fighter/wizard dichotomy.

-Lack of reliance on specific fiction. The more generic the system, the better. Likewise we're more interested in playing out our own stories than specific Transformers history.

-Playable with few players and no explicit GM. We've only got one friend who is also a Transformers fan, so our table would likely never have more than 3 people to it, GM included.

-Flexible classes and "races". IE: you choose to be "Strong", giving you your +2 damage instead of choosing to be an "orc".

-Simple character construction. I want to crack out a character, enemies and the like in a couple of minutes or on the fly. I don't want to have to consult tomes of rules and feats.

-Cheap: I don't have a lot of money. Free if at all possible.

So that's it folks, if there's nothing official I want a simple, flexible system that I can re-purpose to do the job. I'll even take fan-made systems if they fit the bill. Any thoughts?

Hmm. Can't be that hard to repurpose an RPG. I'm just trying to think of what features the Transformers have that a character sheet might need.

Oh, here are some:
http://tfarchive.com/toys/techspecs/original-era/1984__Hound.jpg

Strength, Intelligence, Speed, Endurance, Rank, Courage, Firepower and Skill. Rated 1 to 10.

That's quite a list. And one that raises some questions:

Endurance: is this like hit points? Or more like fuel economy?
Firepower: some Transformers carry weapons. Does Firepower only apply to built-in weapons?
Skill: wow. Vague.

Then, the description for Hound (see above link) mentions weaknesses and special capabilities.

Some changes and GM rulings would be useful, but I have an RPG in mind...

I have seen some of the homebrew's out there, Seibertron (dot) com has a running RP that uses what seems to be the common fan system, based off that stat caed, but I really don't like how many stats it's got. The design is simple, but like a lot of fan-made systems (for any IP) it seems to kind of nerd it up with a need to have a stat for everything.

I'm really just not that familiar with a lot of systems outside the various D&Ds. If one of them would be a good fit, I'm certainly up to toying with it.

I'll read through MODOS after I hit the post button....now.

I'd just go with a Supers ruleset - if you want d20, go Mutants and Masterminds.

It is out of print but Fantasy Flight put out a book called...

Mechamorphosis

Which appears to be exactly what you are looking for.

(I don't know how good it is, I've only ever skimmed through it.)

This is indeed exactly what I'm looking for. Admittedly though, I got an itch and was in the mood while searching and getting no results and watching more Transformers Prime so I ended up writing my own system. It's much less comprehensive than Mechamorphosis, but that is really the point. I'll probably read through Mechamorphosis over the next few days and get some pointers, and then post it up in the Homebrew section for anyone interested.

Please share it! I am thinking of doing a similar very-light TF one shot.

I'm putting the finishing touches on the system right now. I've got it just about rounded out to 10 pages with ~5000 words. It mostly needs some spiffy formatting. Both of which my wife will be doing for me when she has a chance. I would expect to have it in a beta stage later this week along with a character sheet.

I ran a Transformers game using Marvel Heroic Roleplaying with just the basic book. It was pretty easy to create the character you wanted and even the lower powered Transformers were not completely overshadowed by the more powerful characters.

Yeah, Marvel Heroic Roleplaying would be the perfect system for quick-fast Transformer action while Mutants & Masterminds would be a nice crunchy system to use.
