D&D 5E Truly Understanding the Martials & Casters discussion (+)

People forget that you needed STR9 CON7 to be a fighter in 1e. Literally higher than the magic user's INT 9 Dex 6.

Even Gary thought Fighter were supposed to be exceptional individuals.

If you rolled bad, you were supposed to reroll your PC.
A minimum req of Str 9 Con 7 doesn't really make a good case for 'exceptional individual'...

Classes aren't entitled to have a built in answer to every challenge in any case.
Except Wizards. And Clerics.

Also Druids.

Oh, can't forget Sorcerers to a lesser extent.

Oh, and bards.

But mostly wizards. Wizards not only expect but demand a built in answer to every challenge. Don't believe me? Tell them enemies won't be dropping spellbooks.

Really? None of them has an answer to every challenge.

Do you also cave in and not use beholders, things that counterspell, or things resistant to magic? Do you check the spells memorized and only put in challenges the wizard has spells memorized to handle?
