Trying to dump cable television.

1. Find a family member or friend with satellite TV.
2. Purchase for them a slingbox enabled receiver they can leave hooked up and attached to their internet connection.
3. Access via your own slingbox device.

Not that I know anyone who does that...........

DS

Also do not forget that an Xbox360 will operate as a Windows Media Center device so you may be able to use a PC that runs WMC in conjunction to give you more options. I used to use this to do YouTube before the actual Xbox client became available.

I got rid of cable just over a year ago because of trying to save money to pay off medical bills. I thought I would miss it horribly. I was so wrong. And now I never have to see any commercials with that horrid Flo character from Progressive Insurance!

There is a podcast about 'cord cutting' on the twit network, called Frame Rate. Ironically it's hosted by a couple of guys that claim they want to cut their cable cord but love tv so much they still pay for their overpriced cable.

Just one thing, does anyone really think it's economical to cut your cable and continue to watch sports by going to bars? If your experience mirrors mine, it only takes handful of nights out to make the cable bill worth it. I suppose you can economize by buying the cheapest possible drink, no food, and sipping the entire match but sitting on a couch with a beverage in hand and refills available seems a lot more comfy to me.

economical? probably not... but watching the game with 15 others has its own attractions, and there's all the drinks I want. As for other things than sports: I just download what I want to see, which is perfectly legal here in the netherlands.

If you like watching sports, I think you are stuck with cable.

A major reason the television and cable companies have been investing in the rights to sports programming is because it's programming that is watched live, where it's harder to skip advertisements, and is harder to get it from the internet or non-authorized sources.

Perhaps you could look at a compromise solution. Can you cut a third element out of the budget so that you can keep both cable and the upgraded internet? Can you downgrade to a basic cable package and then get Netflix, and still get the local games?
