Tumbling with a 2-handed weapon

Also, if you think that tumble is to easy to do there is a house rule that my group uses. The PC/NPC makes a tumble check then any NPC/PC that would get an AoO normally against non-tumbling opponents make a reflex save against DC Tumble Check. If they suceed then they get an AoO, if not then tumble works normally. Note that the PC/NPC still gets to move even on a failed tumble check.
Or you could go with Monte Cook's rule, and oppose tumble checks with attack rolls to set the Tumble DC. Add 5 for tumbling through an opponent's space. I'm not sure if your houserule is asking for a DC 15 reflex save, or a reflex save against the result of the tumbler's check.

...and while we're at it, I play a rogue and have a hard enough time at the frontlines already. A d6 for HD is pretty poor for a melee class. Anyway, opposing Tumble checks just serves one thing - that rogues have to spend their skill points even more on very costly Skills and in the end it makes Tumble useless since high HD monsters later on have obscene attack rolls and reflex saves.

I'd second that - tumble DC's should NOT be set by anything which critters just get for free, like saves, attacks or the like. Personally I'm all for opposing it with a tumble check. Another possibility would be to oppose it with sense motive. Basically it means that a rogue won't be able to tumble past a particularly canny opponent, but most of the time he'll not have a problem.

It means that tumbling is no longer a sure thing, but it doesn't totally screw rogues, which the attack vs tumble does.

I think mine would have to be the scene from Drunken Master II in which he uses the bamboo pole against the horde of axe-wielders.
Or stuck under a small table...

As for the matter at hand, perhaps the character is using the large weapon to block blows while he moves, thus escaping from possible AoO's.

His house rule is Monte's rule, I think, but doesn't Monte's rule raise the DC by 10 (not 5) for tumbling through an occupied square?
