As Raven Elk lifts his arm to launch his spear, the words of Taylar stay his hand. He lowers his spear back to its resting position. Adisakti cleans his blades and returns them from to their scabbards.

The fleeing soldiers continue to run, not looking back over their shoulders. The sound of their footfalls indicates that they continue at a full run. The soldier who recanted stands and dusts himself. He walks backward glancing over his shoulder occasionally so as to not trip. He perpetuates this mannerism for 10 strides, 20 steps walking backward, before he too runs. Unlike the other two, he is on the path going in the opposite direction from which the party was originally headed.

Once the soldiers have left the area, Adisakti asks in Maldrog, "Do we take anything other than the swords or leave the tunics lying here? How do you want to handle the corpses?"

Each of the 7 dead soldiers is wearing a woolen, Corded Tunic that has been dyed forest green, an un-dyed emblazoned sun has been knitted onto the back of each, being the official symbol for The Lord of the Day. Each was armed with a double-edged, harnin short sword and a wooden buckler.

There is a total of 56 Marks among them, but the soldiers are distinctly void of trinkets or talismans, since their religion would forbid the carrying of such. One, however, does have a dark green, opaque stone in a pouch.

It is not an easy task to strip a corpse and move it. The dead are unrealistically heavy; but with three able men, the task is possible. The bodies are discarded off the path, unceromoniously.

Distributing the load for ease of carry, the three men continue along the path in the direction they were previously headed. The path can be followed easily enough, but it is becoming overgrown from lack of use. Cursory examinations shows that people have most recently traveled it in the opposite direction, most likely the soldiers previously encountered, and also some shod horses, much longer ago.

The next two days of wary travel are uneventful, skirting the edge of the swampy area always on the right. Toward mid afternoon of the second day, the swamp becomes intermittent moor and bog, various waterfowl are prevalent; but most important is a wooden cabin built upon a rise in the moor, sparsely shrouded by willows and cypress. Access to the cabin by way of the path from the north looks to have been manufactured rather than natural, though it was done many cycles back.

The cabin is watched from a distant vantage point for the remainder of the afternoon. Though no one is seen, Taylar is absolutely sure he can hear, at least two, voices coming from the far side of the cabin, one a male, the other female. The male voice is gruff and dictatorial in tone. The female is quiet enough to not allow for any further dicernment.

As the light of day begins to fade, artificial light illuminates the inside of the cabin. The light does not flicker like that of an oil lamp. It is steady.

Adisakti asks the obvious. "Do we want to follow the path or try to cross this swamp in the morning or do we want to wait a few days to see if we can formulate a more thorough plan?

Taylar says softly in Maldrog, so as not to be overheard, "The path will probably be watched and maybe trapped. Let's try and find a way to reach the cabin unobserved. Perhaps we can manipulate waylines to find a dry path through the bog."

In the early light of dawn, as there are no visible lights from the cabin, the three men begin making there way more directly to the site, rather than follow the path. Whether bog or swamp or marsh or moor, the vocabulary may have some technical difference but the important fact remains that the ground contains too much moisture to allow regular egress.

As it so happens, Taylar can manipulate air to aid his progress. Raven Elk can alter the available liquid to adjust his equilibrium. Adisakti has no such talent and moves much slower.

A mist rises over the moist area every morning during this particular season and obscures the movement. It also obscures the target, but the distance is short and the direction sure. The ground is also a bit more solid at this season, too.

As the mist burns off, the three men are within spitting distance of the cabin. It can now be seen that there is more ground of higher elevation on the far side of the cabin, as well as other structures. The thwank of a bow string can be heard from the far side. Raven Elk who happens to be farthest to right gestures that he can see. There is a girl practicing her bow under the watchful eye of two men.
