Taylar will Render Aid to Raven Elk. Since he is one of the uninjured, Taylar will search the immediate area to be sure they are clear of spiders. He will collect the spider fangs from the fallen arachnids. He sees the burn marks on the other spiders and thinks back to his reluctance to use heat against them, but he sees that his friends are not burned at all. Feeling silly about it now, he resolves to not let fear of getting burned hold back his power again. He nods in understanding as he ponders this matter. "The same power that damages also protects," he concludes.

Though is is still injured, since Taylar has lent aid to his healing, Vittero will, also, tend to Raven Elk.

Taylar, searching the immediate area, does not perceive any other dangers. Because he is able to move about, even though with some difficulty, Vittero offers to help collect spider fangs and also suggests trying to collect their venom glands, as well.

Taylar: 15 + 14 = 29
Vittero: 16 + 16 = 32
FangsT: 29 + 92(d100) + 63(luck) - 40(simple) > 100
FangsV: 32 + 96(d100) - 40(simple) < 100

Maka will also render aid to Raven Elk, to further accelerate his healing. After this is done, Maka will check in and around the spider trapdoor-burrows, to see if he can find anything useful; he figures there might be bones, claws, or perhaps even feathers from past victims that might prove useful.

Perhaps we should stick to the main road until everyone is feeling better. (Adi grins) At least there we only have to worry about brigands and highway men jumping out at us.

Maka specifically searches the spider burrows and is surprised to find that the pest seem to be excellent house keepers. Each burrow is free of debris and old remains. One burrow contains and web wrapped field rat, that appears a fairly fresh capture. Another contains and egg sack, which Maka instinctively heats, causing it to smolder and char, removing any chance of the hundreds of spiders it contained to develop.

All old debris seems to be removed from the burrows and discarded in the "kill zone" Vittero first discovered.

Adi, searching the area as well as Maka does discovers nothing else new. Picking around the remains discarded by the spiders, likewise, turns up nothing of interest.

Taking Adi's suggestion, the crew sets up camp along the roadway, deciding to take the night to allow Vittero and Raven Elk to fully heal.

To bide the time efficiently, while Adisakti is looking around the southern side of the road, opposite of where the spiders were encountered, he discovers a game trail left by a much larger varmint than the rabbit Maka acquired earlier. As a result, he and Maka are able to acquire two large jack rabbits to add the the party's meal supply for the evening.

Since the grasses are fully ripe for harvesting, Vittero collects enough to make some pasty dough cakes to go with the rabbit. He frowns at the tastelessness.

"Salt! Next time we decide to go on an adventure, we need to bring some salt."

OOC: Camouflage is a post Academic skill. It requires 10 ranks in the Collegiate skill, followed by 10 ranks in the Academic skill, and at least 1 rank in the Ayurveda skill.

Days 216-217: Heading to Boga City

After a much better evening meal than expected, complete with rabbit, spider legs, and porridge, the crew continues eastward in the morning feeling refreshed. There was a little rabbit remaining to save for the next day.

OOC: Hunting:
Effectiveness:
  • Empathy (Divination Task) +

This active task is applied to finding and identifying animals or people by their passage. The specificity of the information known is determined by the rarity of the creature.
Raven Elk: 17(empathy) + 14(hunting) + 93(d100) = 124

Adisakti: 10(empathy) + 22(hunting) + 65(d100) = 97

Day 216:
The day begins hot and calm. Maka and Adisakti are a bit preoccupied with their own thoughts and only notice the common birds, insects, and lizards. Vittero, at one point, thinks he has located a varmint trail crossing the road. After following it for a bit, he returns to the crew having shot a rabbit. Taylar, with a bit of luck, notices a small covey of large game birds feeding in a hollow a short distance from the edge of the road. The birds have not yet noticed the approaching party.

When Taylar motions to the others, Vittero and Maka separate and each ready an arrow. As the party moves forward, the harvester birds spook and take flight, as expected. Maka and Vittero are each able to shoot one, adding them to the rabbit collected earlier in the day.

Day 217:
[sblock=Active Awareness While Traveling]
OOC:
Raven Elk: 17(empathy) + 14(hunting) + 96(d100) = 127
Maka: 15(empathy) + 14(hunting) + 74(d100) = 103
Vittero: 17(empathy) + 17(hunting) + 91(d100) + 88(luck) = 213
Taylar: 15(empathy) + 14(hunting) + 92(d100) + 70(luck) = 191
Adisakti: 10(empathy) + 22(hunting) + 92(d100) + 83(luck) = 207
[/sblock]
The crew seems to all be more attentive to the environment this day rather than their own thoughts. Maka takes a rabbit early on. Raven Elk discovers a covey of medium-sized harvesters, from which 2 are taken. Taylar spooks up a larger rabbit, which Vittero manages to shoot it before Maka can; after which, he jokes with Maka for being slow.

By late afternoon, Adisakti and Vittero both notice a tiny wisp of smoke wafting above the trees to the south of the road.
