I understand your point, but even if you don't dump STR, using the 15 x STR is only 150 lbs for STR 10 (not a dump for non-STR melee PCS) isn't enough to carry most adult men by yourself.

FWIW, we use a modified variant system that mimics the variant option in the PHB.

Yes, both characters involved have a STR of 10. One is a rogue, the other is a cleric who heals and zaps from behind. The player actually pumped INT to get better at arcane and history checks; not too optimized, I would say.

I'd say "yes", if only to avoid the follow-up discussions of how to quickly chop the corpse in half, and whether sewing it back together later will be good enough for purposes of raise dead.
