I use hand scythes (1d8 x4 medium exotic weapon counts as light off hand weapon when using two)

If you wield a longsword and a hand scythe you are wielding two medium weapons.

Apparently the hand scythe (of which I had never heard) counts as a light weapon only when dual weilded and only in the PC's off hand. What's the prob?

I don't think he really needs to.

Right, because they're both medium weapons.

Which must have come from a Mongoose book, or it's homebrew...

Neither have I.

...which doesn't make a damn bit of sense. A medium weapon is a medium weapon. Period. Even making the medium weapon out of mithral doesn't change a thing. It's still medium, no matter what hand you hold it in, no matter what your other hand is holding, no matter how you use it. With the exception of magic, this goes against the core rules of dual wielding and makes no apparent sense what-so-ever.

What I wanted to say is that the weapon is to powerful: If it were a medium weapon with 1d8/x4, it would be OK. If it were a medium weapon with 1d8 damage that could be weapon finesse'd, 'twould be OK. Even a medium weapon with 1d8 damage that can be used in both hands with only the penalties of a light off-hand weapon, it would be OK. Weird, but OK. But if you have a weapon with 1d8, with x4 crit, AND that allows you to use two weapon fighting as with a light off-hand weapon, that's to much!

Why not a mercurial longsword with 2d6/17-20/x4 that can be finessed and incurs no penalties whatsoever when wielded two-weapon-style? There has to be a limit with the weapon.

Besides, the Scythe of the PHB has 2d4/x4 Damage. It's almost the same as 1d8 (5 instead of 4.5 average damage), and that's a large weapon. So effectively reducing the size of the weapon by two steps and almost fully retaining it's potency is to much, even if we're talking about an exotic weapon!

Kreynolds, what do you have against Mongoose books?

I meant to specifically mention the Quint. books, but I forgot. Basically, half the crap in a Quint. book can be thrown right out the window because it's too powerful for even my games (and I run some damn difficult games). However, the other half? Mucho cool. The one time that I love the Quint. books though is in a solo game. They don't unbalance a thing.

O,k so yes as was stated its in Legions of hell. the weapon only counts as a light weapon when duel weilding and only if both are hand scythes (as I understand it). I also went as far as to say if you werent duel weilding then the weapon had a -4 penalty because its not being used properly. Then again I am duel weilding:D .

Yeah I know its over powered, but so is the guy that I'm making. I'm hoping to post in story hour after I get the logistics and what not worked out. this guy is:

ftr10/temp10/wepmaster10/gladiator10

Hes just the icing on the cake. I'm working on an entire party, but like I said I need to work out logistics before I can work on the story. The story is gonna start around level four and trace them though current time lines. I will throw in things from some other campaigns that I have played in so yeah, it should be interesting (I hope).

Thanks for the info, I'll probably just take penetrate damage reduction.... Thats add 2 to the enhancement bonus for purposes of DR right?
