Two Weapon Fighting Speculation

First Post
Doing a little bit of brainstorming this morning, I came up with this simple idea:

If a character is wielding two weapons in combat, if the character makes an attack with her main weapon, she may spend a minor action to make a basic attack with her second weapon.

(note that the character must attack before she can use that minor action for the off-hand attack)

This cuts down on the total number of powers because you no longer have to have many low level powers devoted to two weapon fighting, and it allows you another viable option for how to use your minor action.

No doubt there will, and should, be powers that utilize two weapon fighting. I'm not saying that there shouldn't be. I'm just speculating here on additional ways that this might be handled.

That is a really good idea on how to do it. There will doubtless be powerz thet use 2wf as well, like 2 weapon rend, etc that are encounters/dailies, etc.

My take:
A basic At will power to attack with both weapons as a standard action.

If you don't have the power, you can attack with one weapon or the other but not both.

I don't think there'll be a basic TWF option either.

Attacking with both weapons might be a bit overpowered compared to the other at-will powers, though. So I wouldn't be surprised if it was more complicated than just "make two attack rolls, each for normal damage."

That would be a great way to handle it. I like that idea a lot. :)

Another possibility is using the followup mechanic we've seen so you can only attempt the second attack if the first one hit. Adding a slight penalty to both rolls and/or only applying a raw ability modifier to damage only once would go a long way to balancing it with other at-will abilities.

I would rather see a different style of attacks/disarms/options with two weapon fighting rather than just extra attacks. The idea that you get more swings in 6 seconds seems silly, but you certainly could employ two weapons to gain a different technique that should play different than other weapon/shield combinations.
