Two Weapon Rend: weak?

What then, would people reccommend in its place then?
In our high level party, this feat was one of the few remaining that our 2 weapon Ftr (a Ftr/Tempest/Bbn, actually) could take that would increase his damage output. It was worth it.

The mechanics for 2 weapon rend also promote a normally weak tactical choice too. IIRC, the limit on the use of the rending is once per target per round. So you can get more total damage by diverting attacks to secondary foes once you score a rend.

It's good for CW samurai  :p

Actually, while the samurai is a joke, the ranger is now. Rangers do not have the Dex pre-req for the two-weapon chain. Of course a low Dex = low AC for rangers = corpse.

That's an artifact of the way natural attacks work, i.e. one attack routine per round, rather than iterative attacks with weapons.

IOW: "Would a four armed troll be able to rend twice per round, or would he have to hit with all four claws to score a rend?"

Rend (Ex): If a troll hits with both claw attacks, it latches onto the opponent’s body and tears the flesh. This attack automatically deals an additional 2d6+9 points of damage.

I have been improving the TWF chain, since I think that the feats are weak when balanced against the prerequisites. With Improved TWF, I also have the featgrant the ability to use a one-handed weapon as a light weapon for the purpose of TWF penalties. Two Weapon Rend would make a good boost for the Greater TWF feat.

The D20 Call of Cthulhu Gug got a rend that increased damage by the number of claws that hit. 2 claws took a chunk out of you, 3 claws hurt, 4 claws were Bad.

This might just be semantics, but would a character be able to use the Two-Weapon Rend feat while wielding a double weapon such as a two-bladed sword?
Rending in D&D is when 2 seperate weapons pull apart inside the foe or the critter's claws pull the foe apart. Even if the wording allows it, it won't look right.

TWO-WEAPON REND [Older EPIC version]
Prerequisites: Dex 15, base attack bonus +9, Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, Two-Weapon Fighting.

Benefit: If the character hits an opponent with a weapon in each hand in the same round, he or she may automatically rend the opponent. This deals additional damage equal to the base damage of the smaller weapon plus 1 1/2 times the character’s Strength modifier. Base weapon damage includes an enhancement bonus on damage, if any. The character can only rend once per round, regardless of how many successful attacks he or she makes.

I believe there's a Tome of Battle Tiger Claw maneuver which does this as well.
