UA Question about Spells

In Monte's book (if its actually AU I apologize I always get those two confused) my friend told me that spells actually do half of their damage as real and the other half as subdual. Is that true or is my friend off his rocker, cause I never found that passage.

No, it isn`t. There is no passage that says so. The only things that come close to this:
Transfer Wounds heals real damage and let`s the caster take half of it as subdual damage. Usually (at least in D&D), for each hp a healing spell heals, it also reduces subdual damage by one
But regular spells usually deal normal damage or nonlethal damage only.
