Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Bard Colleges!

I like the glamour bard right now.

Essentially, it is "Rock Star" the power. Anything you can imagine a Famous Singer in this world convincing a massive fan to do after a performance, this college can pull off on anyone.
I feel like the glamour bard powers need more Synergy to be Truly Outrageous.

I like both of these subclasses, sure the scaling of their 3rd level abilities could change a little.

To some extent the College of Whispers reminds me a bit of the non-magical Athasian Bard, but I don't think it'll be a perfect fit for that one. I think poison works just fine for it's concept, though I guess one could make it into a minor sneak attack like ability.

I love the Enthralling Performance ability of the College of Glamour, it's quite good for taking control of interaction-type scenes, especially with the bonus that no one knows you tried to charm them. Mantle of Inspiration is good at getting your party to come to your aid right away.

The bard can always use some more subclasses, sure I want a fire-dancer type subclass, but I feel that these 2 also fill some good niches for the Bard.

Mantle of Majesty: "...any creature charmed by you automatically fails its saving throw against the spell"

I feel this needs clarification.

Does this mean the charmed condition in general?

Yes, as long as it was the bard that charmed the creature. When charmed is used it is referring to the condition "charmed"

The College of Whispers is a cool name, and the sub-class features look like they would be interesting to role play.
In the unlikely event that I ever DM, I would definitely permit this one at the table.

We've had more Barbarian sub-classes, and now Bard, both of which had only two options in the PHB.
Assuming they stick with that pattern, I wonder what they have in store for the Druid?

Monstrous races + evil bard colleges=evil AP? Admittedly it would hold more water if they gave us a demon rage barbarian last week, but.....

Picture this: a bunch of do-gooders plan to summon the Hebdomad (on account of them being the most angel-like big time celestials from previous editions) to make paladins LG again (and other stuff that players don't care about but evil PC's would). Can your motley crew of monsters stop them in time.....

I'd at least like to see Love and Forge domains. Those are major godly spheres of influence that are poorly represented by existing domains.

I'd broaden them to Passion and Creation, because there are relatively few domains this edition compared to third that making their spheres bigger could be good.

So Passion would include Gods of Love, Lust, Rage, Hate, Pleasure, Pain, ect...

Creation would include Gods of the Forge, Weaving, Carving, ect...

While I like the flavor of each of the subclasses, I don't really like the abilities. They feel very specific and much less general use than the ones in the PHB; I don't care for temporary hit points.

And the College of Whispers again just pushes the game into "everything is magical".
