Unhallowed Previews

I'm looking forward to the gorgon and what I hope is a better medusa /stone-cold oldies/. Strahd and Von Richten holds no joy for me - that I and I could care less about Ravenloft.
But I love undead, how does that work? The other figs aren't bad and as for the humanoids, I could use a few more, the ones they've had so far suxxor! (for the most part).

Other things I could do without, anything war-forged, or so setting specific as to be unusable by the community at large. I would love to use Drittzt and Elminster as figures becuase the scults are nice, but having to pay between $13 - $75 for a crappy plastic fig is just too much! I would rather have a ton of nicely sculpted "plain Janes" than a bunch of "highly collectable" name figs that I can't use for fear of offending someone when I don't introduce them as "NAME FIGURE". And God forbid that I re-paint one of them...*sheesh*

I have discovered since I very, very recently joined the land of plasticrack that getting minis for roleplaying purposes doesn't always seem to mesh well with the randomisation, rareness and collectability of the minis.

There are some figures that I have found that would be perfect for some of my players' PC's. Unfortunately they are quite often rares from an earlyish set. I like my players but not enough to pay $9 for a particular mini for them. Knowing my luck that PC would die the session after I bought the mini!

I've only boot the boosters.

Let's see....

two purple worms...
two god slayers...
two tiamats
one bahamut
fire elemental

And well, I've only bought eight of 'em so there you go. Those god slayers are ugly and worthless though. They're the new night gaunt/phaton/giants from the old Giants of Legend.
That's what I've been hearing. I must've just got really screwed on distribution methinks. The only two rares I managed to get were from a case and they weren't rares that I necessarily wanted. I fared much better with GoL, a set which was reputed to have really terrible distribution. I got all the rare huges (except the glabrezu) out of booster packs, with minimal duplicates.

Meh, I'm just stupidly bitter at getting 7 fire elementas and 6 mountain trolls.

Man, those are just brutal sculpts. Strahd, IMO, is such a disappointment. And Van Richten looks nothing like he did in all the Ravenloft material. I'll pass on both of those. Hopefully they're both rares so I can spend less money on uncommons instead.
Man both of those suck. Really suck. Yikes.

7 Fire Elementals and 6 Mountain Trolls really would suck. Was this from whole cases or did you just buy boosters?

I've had decent luck with trading on MaxMinis. If you buy a decent amount of minis, you can probably find someone willing to trade a rare or something for an older figure. First Class shipping in USA is generally 2-3$ for a box of a few minis. The only trouble is when you're trading unpopular stuff for popular stuff. I can't seem to find a Horned Devil for instance. Meanwhile the Wizened Elder Watcher will probably be buried with me. :)

I think both figures are a disappointment, but I also figure both will look better in person than online. van Richten especially lacks something. Looking at the stats, it doesn't appear to have much if any relation to Rudolph van Richten though.

For Strahd, it looks like they stuck to the image well enough, but the image itself is not my "Strahd", but the newer anime thing from Expedition. (A great adventure with overall iffy artwork.) I'd have prefered 1e Strahd, or even Strahd from the cover to this guy;

I bought a bunch of boosters then I bought a case, then I got fed up and quit WotDQ.
I think I pulled two mountain trolls from that case or two fire elementals, so the case distribution wasn't bad, but I got screwed on the boosters.

*agrees they chose the wrong sculpt for Strahd and Van Ritchen.* I was however impressed they chose to use the good Doctor...even if it looks nothing like him.

*honestly think these people need to look at the source material closer when doing this kind of stuff*
