Did egg salad sandwiches for dinner tonight, but for the first time ever, I added bacon flakes. I rarely eat those in anything, but it turned out to be a good idea.

I had a similar experience with Bac'n Bits on a tuna salad sandwich I found at a health food store near me, it sounded strange to me at first but it works really well.

Today’s lunch was super simple:

Toasted German sourdough, Boursin cheese, and a sliced hard-boiled egg. Nothing else!

I don’t usually make sandwiches without condiments, but this one didn’t really need any. MAYBE I’d butter the toast next time for a bit more depth of flavor, but it wasn’t really necessary.

Sandwich shop near me had a new offering called The Carrot. Roast carrots, Monterey Jack, and kimchi on ciabatta put on the plancha. It was good, but they need to use a stinkier kimchi imo.

That sounds interesting! Roasted carrots tending towards the sweet side; the pickled spiciness of the kimchi & sriracha as a counterpoint.

I generally don’t favor cheddar solo on grilled cheese sandwiches.

But besides that, was it pre-grated? Pre-grated cheeses sometimes have anti-clumping agents added to them, and don’t have quite the same flavor as sliced or self-grated cheeses.

I've been goofing around with the following sandwich very occasionally (for obvious reasons): it's a fried egg sandwich on sourdough with cheddar cheese, peanut butter, and sriracha. I'm using kewpie mayo to get the bread nice and golden. So far, I've found that (1) shredded cheddar works better than sliced, and (2) more sriracha is far better than more peanut butter (the fruitiness of the sriracha works really well with everything). I feel like it's missing something fresh, maybe scallions?

Try some thai basil on it, I've had it on peanut butter and sriracha sandwiches.
