Thanks for keeping us updated... Did she enjoy herself? Will she play again?

She says she did, but like I said earlier, she thought that the group size made it too slow. She thought that smaller groups or even one-on-ones would be more interesting. But she did say she would play again.

SemperJase: I wish I was in your shoes! My wife has certainly been invited.

However, my wife tells me she would be much more interested in something not so overtly fantasy. If I did a CoC-ish game that felt kinda like the X-files for instance (her example) she'd probably enjoy it a lot more.

On the plus side, she likes the big groups. She's really more interested in the hanging out with friends aspect of it than the nitty-gritty of the game. Then again, we played with four married couples, and almost all the wives felt that way! :)

I met my first wife gaming. Let's just say that I have learned that there are more important things in a life companion than being a prepacked gamer. Y'know, little things like honesty, humility, compassion, sanity, etc.

Sure, get picky. ;) Assuming 'beat the odds & the gender ratio & finding a decent human being as well' is the easy way then...

I got my wife gaming a couple years ago, tho we spend more time painting minis than actually playing.

But we just did a weekend one-shot at the FLGS (where my wife's PC turned out to get 3 18s!), and the store manager invited Cher to her Thursday night game. So my wife is not only a gamer, she's got an outside group!

Interesting. I'd have also added the MM Scent feat, myself, I think. And maybe a -2 on all vision checks. Does she see in black and white? :)

So, was that just a one-time gig, or are you actually homebrewing something with this?

One-time for now, but if she decides she wants to go further, I may actually develop it out.

For scent, I seriously thought about it, but I didn't want to go too far afield at first. She's already a ranger with maxed out tracking, spot, and listen.

I got a tinge of inspiration from the DOGOPOLY game, and could extend this further - use the halfling scores for chihuahuas, beagles, and yorkshire types, use the gnome scores for bulldogs, poodles, and the like, use the dwarf stats for collies, larger spaniels, etc. and use half-elves for the setters and labs. Then, leave the half-orc stats for saint bernards, great danes, etc.

She mentioned playing again soon, and inviting "sis" and "sis's boyfriend" along, too. We'll see how it goes from there.

Kinda funny though, if you think about it: aren't you the one who just discovered the "furry" community? :p

Although to tell you the truth, there were some good stories back in the day of talking animals. I think something along those lines might be pretty fun. I don't know how viable it'd be as a long term campaign, but there you have it. The Vermin d20 game inspired me to reread Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH even. Might be some fun ideas along that line as well.

Actually, the Good domain is one of the best domains, simply because it eventually allows the character to craft Holy weapons.

The Good domain is also very effective because it gives access to Holy Smite, a convenient little mid-level damaging spell that you may be able to drop on your allies with impunity. Useful that. It also blinds for one round, which makes the Rogues happy and softens up a defensive position nicely.

Well, my wife ended up not playing this weekend because she was cramming to get something done by Sunday, but she did promise to play with us next time. Just because I was really excited about it, I started a story hour here.
