[Updated 7/5] Latest update on my FR game: as ever, opinions wanted

Actually I'm probably going to shelve the idea for a while. I've caught the Midnight bug in a BIG way and am preparing to kick off that campaign. I'm going to see about adapting the idea to that setting but since it works best in a kingdom that is currently good I don't know if it would work.

Mmm... Midnight... yeah, it's some good. I ran one a while back. GREAT game. I do, however, recommend not running Crown of Shadow. At least not as it's written. It's HIGHLY railroad-like, and there's MAJOR potential for a TPK towards the end. Do what I ended up doing about halfway through: steal ideas from it, but give it your own, less choo-choo!, stamp.

Hmm... actually, I just realized how some of Midnight's "feel" seems to have snuck into my Forgotten Realms stuff. Neat...

I never run modules as written unless my group requests it so and then they know full well that they may be railroaded. Sometimes they want it that way so that they have a common frame of reference with other gamers. Anyone who has played through Tomb of Horrors, Vault of the Drow, or even Sunless Citadel has that common frame of reference. I had a DM who started running Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil for our group but he twisted it so much that it was no longer recognizable as the module as printed.

And on an amusing little ego-trip-eqsue side note: I think at last count 3 of you guys were planning on using at least some of this as your own campaigns. Do you have any idea how many Faerunians that means I'm technically responsible for the deaths of?

I'm pretty darn sure that you don't want to know the answer to that I think you may be Faerun's equivalent to Hitler after we all get through with your ideas. Of course, Bane and the Zents will be eternally grateful
