[Updated 7/5] Latest update on my FR game: as ever, opinions wanted

I just had my fiance read over the writing -- she's gonna be in the game, and she's the one who knows the least about the Realms, so I figured if it made sense to her, it would be good for the others. Ya know what she told me? "You should write a book."

Oh yeah, and "are we gonna get something like this EVERY game? 'Cause we should..." :)

Hey Surfmonkey... you and I need to do a Hickman and Weiss thing with this and make "HEAPS" of money!

If you want an IT job move out here to the Washington DC Metro Area. I work for Lockheed and we're hiring like crazy for this area.

There is one thing I've veen wondering about.

What does Alusair have to say about Alec? Will she support him or try to prevent him from taking over the throne? After all, after Azoun V, she is the closest heir to the throne.

Another thing you might find some use for:

* Westgate / Night Masks:
Place where the lich’s phylactery is hidden?

The Fire Knives have their operations based in Westgate and are (somewhat) supported by the Night Masks. And they hate the Obarskyrs.

The Fire Knives probably don't know that Alec is actually the true heir. Maybe they have been approached by the lich who tells them that he will destroy the ruling house of Cormyr and wants them to protect his phylactery?

She's gonna be opposed to the Alec thing, but he's got Vanderghast himself backing him, and that's tough to compete with. So she's pretty much gonna storm off and start secretly gathering support from some of the nobles for a potential coup....

And thanks for the Fire Knives idea. Me like.

Glad to be of any help.

That's it! I'm killing off my plans for the high-level capmaign I had in store for my players! I'm stealing this plot!

You don't mind, do you? :)

Hmmm... I don't know that any Lich would trust any mortals with his Phylactery. Most likely he'd create some powerful Undead to guard it. Liches are traditionally PARANOID about their phylacteries and why not... destroying it is the only way to destroy a Lich.

I say have Alusair get killed by the Fire Knives. During the attack the Fire Knives would stage an attack on Alec who would only just barely survive with the help of Vanderghast. That will lend credence to his claim of being legit if the Fire Knives attack him (obviously they were meant to fail).

Of course maybe the fake Vanderghast paid the Fire Knives to kill both so that if the Fire Knife in question were captured he'd say that he really meant to kill both even if magic were brought into an interrogation. Vanderghast meant to betray the Fire Knife assassins the whole time but needed their story to ring true in the face of a Discern Lie spell.

Ya know, it's funny... that seems to have become the common consensus on this thread...

I'm gonna be REAL disappointed if my players don't like it HALF as much as you guys do...

Oooooo... I just thought of something REALLY diabolical after looking at the last post. What if the fake Vanderghast hired the Fire Knives to kill not only Alusair and Alec but to kill himself too and arranged for his phylactery to be in the same room as Alec when the deed was committed. The possessing Lich could then (after Vanderghast was dead) possess the body of Alec. Considering how paranoid Liches tend to be why would he bother trusting someone else with the power of Cormyr when he could take it for himself?

MUA-HA-HA-HA!!!! :]

Although that is indeed REALLY diabolical, you end up losing a few of things I was really looking forward to playing with...
1. If Alec is possessed by the lich, then it's sorta redundant to have the demon pop out of him if he gets killed.
2. If he's possessed by the lich, then any of the warmongering he does is easily passed off onto the little tag-along in his body, and he's totally off the hook -- whereas if it's still just innocent Alec, you gotta wonder if maybe he was right about some of it all along...

Although the lich taking over Alec would be TRULY diabolical, it robs the setup of some of the grey areas I was looking to majorly exploit...

But on the other hand, if you want to use it, then hey, our games won't look exactly the same then :)

Heh... as far as I know, my group and I are supposed to get this shindig underway on Sunday, so I think my notes are pretty set in stone at this point. So anyone who wants to share any of their ideas or alterations, I'm still lovin' to read them (me fail English? That's unpossible!), but you don't have to worry about me stealing your ideas at this point. Unless they're jaw-dropping-to-the-floor-ingly awesome, in which case I might just change my tune and yoink them ;)

And on an amusing little ego-trip-eqsue side note: I think at last count 3 of you guys were planning on using at least some of this as your own campaigns. Do you have any idea how many Faerunians that means I'm technically responsible for the deaths of? :D
