Catastrophe has caught Urg at last. Blog Braineater, clan chieftain of the Crack Skull ogres and Urg’s former adopted father has tracked his wayward son to Longsaddle. The ogres under the cover of night streamed into Longsaddle with torches blazing and murder in their hearts. The town militia led by Harkam Bayle, cleric of Tyr, fought bravely but was overwhelmed by the rampaging ogres. Many were slain as the ogres tore the town apart searching for Urg, but it was he who found them.
Soaring over the buildings, his body surrounded in a nimbus of purple flame, Urg fell upon the ogres with unparalleled fury. From aloft he rained fire and lightning down upon the marauding humanoids until their bodies lay scorched and broken in the street. At last all that was left was Blog himself, miraculously untouched throughout the spell storm. The ogre chieftain called up to his former son, cursing him for cowardice and demanding that he do battle without the aid of magic. Urg, surveying the destruction the ogres had wrought and seeing the broken bodies of his friends lying dead on the ground felt a terrible rage building in him. Urg descended to the ground, took his staff in hand and then with an ear-shattering howl charged Blog, staff raised high. The huge ogre chieftain grinned evilly and gripped his club with both hands awaiting Urg's reckless charge. The two combatants came together with a terrific crash, club and staff flailing with bone shattering force. Urg and Blog traded blows for over a minute, until finally Urg caught the massive ogre with a downward sweep of his staff that crushed the bones in Blog’s leading leg. Crippled, the ogre fell to his knees his club raised over his head in a vain attempt to ward of the avalanche of destruction Urg rained down upon him. The battle ended suddenly with the dull crack of a shattered skull and the muffled thump of Blog collapsing in the dirt. Urg stood over his adopted father, oblivious of his own wounds, which were grievous, and watched with grim satisfaction as the blood pooled around the ogres motionless form. Finally as the rage left him, Urg collapsed, the strain of his wounds and the emotional trauma he had suffered simply too much to bear. The townsfolk that had come out from hiding to watch the titanic battle rushed to the stricken half-ogres aid.
Under the watchful eye of Harkam Bayle, who had survived the ogre attack, Urg recovered slowly, slipping in and out of consciousness for days at a time. Although Urg had defeated Blog, he had paid a terrible price. The ogres club had crushed one of Urg’s hips and he would walk with a cane for the rest of his life. In addition a glancing blow to his skull had caused permanent nerve damage and cost him the sight in his left eye. Urg was thankful despite his injuries; he had finally escaped his past and put to rest the restless spirits of his former life.
The town’s coffers were strained to the limit with the vast reconstruction efforts needed to rebuild the town. Urg knew that the lair of the Crack Skull ogres contained much booty looted from their victims and once his wounds were healed enough to travel he and Kaylek set out to claim the treasure for Longsaddle. The journey was long and dangerous but Urg found the Crack Skull lair easily and after a short battle he slew or drove off the few remaining ogres and then loaded with treasure returned to Longsaddle
The following months after Urg’s returned from the Crack Skull lair he and the people of Longsaddle rebuillt their broken town. Urg donated vast sums of his personal fortune to the families of those who had been slain in the ogre attack, but the guilt he felt for their suffering would only fade with time. Urg found some comfort in his god and spent many hours in silent prayer to Tyr, seeking guidance and strength from the lord of justice. His wounds on the mend, Urg has resumed his magical studies and seeks new ways to improve Longsaddle’s defenses with magic. With the support of Harkam and the church of Tyr, Urg has also commissioned the construction of a wall complete with ramparts around the town. Urg has vowed never to let the people of Longsaddle suffer needlessly again, and he and his magic will stand before any that wish the town harm.
