Urn Your Pay (Rae judging)

OOC: Whoops now that I think of it you can only take a single action in a surprise round. I think the action that it looks like Erf ended up taking would still be fine, but some of the options I mentioned in the OOC comments are not viable, my bad.

[sblock=ooc]Since this is a surprise round, Gildrim doesn't have time to attack and ready his shield. Since I made Erf go with his failed attack roll earlier, I'll feel bad if I don't do the same for you. So Gildrim remains shieldless. Sorry![/sblock]

Surprise round, continued

Gildrim takes a step forward and slashes at the creature, but the creature twists away from his blade.

The other ghoul wades towards land, eyes glowing with hunger.

Round 1

Ghoul #2 unleashes a flurry of teeth and claws at Fenenn, catching him across the snout with one filthy claw. (3 damage, no paralysis[/url])

Ter-raen at last lumbers into action, readying his shield and drawing his scimitar, he steps forward and yells "Grah!" as he slashes at #2, sending it crumpling to the ground lifeless.

Cyian draws his sling, but stumbles as he moves into position to fire it. He puts his hand out to steady himself, and it lands flat in the center of the largest spiral design on the standing stone. There is a bright flash and the smell of ozone, and when you look back, Cyian is nowhere to be seen.

Initiative
ghoul 2, 14 damage, dead
Ter-raen, 14/14
Cyian, 9/9, whereabouts unknown
Erf, 12/12 <-- you're up
Fenenn, 10/13
Apikotoa, undamaged
Gildrim, 9/9
ghoul 1, undamaged

map

[sblock=more ooc]There's your problem, Trouvere. Ter-raen is taking all the good rolls on IC.

You probably figured this out, but the big flash is me writing Cyian out of the adventure. Jerrand, if you come back and read this, email me and we'll figure out what to do from here.[/sblock]

Fenenn steps diagonally forward so he is directly in front of the ghoul, Erf attempts to aide, but his dagger seems to do little to distract the beast. Seeing this the little gnome dismounts placeing himself to the north of Gildrim.

Fenenn lunges again and his jaws sink into flesh yet again (assuming normal Ghoul AC) leaving a vicious gapeing wound and making the creature lurch precipitously as he attempts to yank its feet out from under it.

[Sblock=OOC]Fenenn's damage and trip attempt. (1d6+3=9, 1d20+1=15)

Fenenn's attack, Erf's aide another (1d20+3=15, 1d20-1=1) [/SBLOCK]

Round 1, continued

Fenenn lunges for the remaining ghoul while Erf flails enthusiastically but uselessly with his dagger. Fenenn's jaws close with a crunch, and the ghoul is unable to avoid being pulled off balance. It falls, and sinks beneath the surface of the brackish water.

Apikotoa nocks an arrow to his new bow and circles closer to the fight, ready to shoot at the ghoul when it emerges. (ooc: ready action)

Gildrim...

Initiative
ghoul 2, 14 damage, dead
Ter-raen, 14/14
Cyian, 9/9, whereabouts unknown
Erf, 12/12
Fenenn, 10/13
Apikotoa, undamaged, attack readied
Gildrim, 9/9 <-- you're up
ghoul 1, 9 damage, improved cover (prone and underwater)

map

OOC: Just in case the ghoul stands up Fenenn's attack of oppertunity is a Fenenn's attack of opertunity. (1d20+7=21, 1d6+3=9) if it does not provoke then his next action is to attack it if it is reachable from dry land, which would be a 17. Erf would flank if possible and aide another if possible on his turn.

And the party with not one, but two bards is yet to see a single use of bardic music, lol!

Gildrim runs around the island yelling "Cyian! Laddie!", to no avail.

OOC: ending 2 squares SW of the standing stone.

Round 1, continued

Gildrim runs around the island yelling "Cyian! Laddie!", to no avail. (ooc: I've left Gildrim in the same square as before on the map. Feel free to pick another square.)

The ghoul, rather than emerging, attempts to hide. The cloudy brown water hides his movements quite well, and its surface is too disturbed to track the ripples.
[sblock=spot DC 28]
You see the ghoul swim south to Q14. It still has improved cover.
[/sblock]

Round 2

Ter-raen, unable to see the ghoul, backs away from the edge of the island, taking a defensive stance. (ooc: total defense)

Erf...

Initiative
ghoul 2, 14 damage, dead
Ter-raen, 14/14, total defense
Cyian, 9/9, whereabouts unknown
Erf, 12/12 <-- you're up
Fenenn, 10/13
Apikotoa, undamaged, attack readied
Gildrim, 9/9
ghoul 1, 9 damage, hiding underwater

map

[sblock=ooc]Improved cover grants +10 to hide checks; hence the ghoul's whopping hide check[/sblock]

Erf mounts Fenenn again and the wolf hound steps back to the north of Gildrim. Erf readies himself to command Fenenn to attack if the creature comes within range steeling himself to aide his animal companion.

Erf readies himself to command Fenenn to attack if the creature comes within range steeling himself to aide his animal companion.

ooc: I'm inclined not to allow this, for two reasons. First, it seems to me that you're trying to get Fenenn to ready an attack, which, while a good idea, seems like fairly refined tactics for a creature of int 2. Second, readying an attack against a creature that you can't see is questionable. I'd allow readying to attack him if he pops up in a specific square, but only for Erf himself. Fenenn would not get to act this round, in that case. Or, you can delay until the ghoul reappears, in which case Fenenn can also act, but you'd both be going after the ghoul. Does that seem reasonable?

[Sblock=OOC] Its more like Ef is readying his free action to direct Fenenn to attack the ghoul, and since you can ready a free action along with a standard this seems pretty reasonable. Its not Fenenn thats holding the attack, essentially Erf is directing him to. I agree that Fenenn himself readying an action would be uinreasonable. That's part of why I had him remount it makes more sense for him holding Fenenn back and waiting to spur him into combat.

I'll be fine if you rule it doesn't but I am pretty sure it works. Imagine a police dog handler holding back his animal, etc.[/sblock]
