Uses for low-level undead

Well, skeletons still take half damage from piercing and slashing, so they don't need to be spell-soakers.

The point is that if you have some good HP'd skeletons, or enough of them, this can pose as a real problem since the ranged weapons aren't as effective. This is where blasting spells comes in.

This is especially true if the skeletons are merely a diversion to something posing a much bigger threat.

Use them as draft animals.

"What the hell is farmer Zeke using to plow to his wheat field?"

"Oh that's George."

"It's a zombie!"

"My mistake. That was George."

Have 20 skeletons grapple opponents, then start throwing cone of cold spells...

For bigger skeletons, perhaps. The normal skeletons will just get hit pretty easily from the AoO from the grapple and fail the grapple, and possibly get killed on the process.

I thought creatures get bonuses to grapple with more than one attacker?

"Several combatants can be in a single grapple. Up to four combatants can grapple a single opponent in a given round."

"Additional enemies can aid their friends with the aid another action. "

Assuming a large enough room, you can have 4 skeletons attempting a grapple, and 4 aiding another skeleton. Odds are, someone should get through.

Course, if you fill the room with enough skeletons, they aren't moving through the room anyways.

Then again, you have 5 skeletons working for one grapple when they each could have done a claw claw bite :) But I get your point.
