Using D Door to change position

Stalker0

Legend
When I d door, can I say, "I move 100 feet to the right and appear prone on the ground?" Or start from prone and use d door to appear upright?

This was a big issue with my sorceror against a whole bunch of archers.

Since you can take no other action after casting your spell, I rule that you appeared as you left. If you were prone while casting you appear prone.

Dropping prone is a free action, so appearing prone seems fine to me.

Edit: After re-reading the spell's description, I'd say your idea seems perfectly fine, either way. There's no reason you couldn't appear 100 feet away upside down if you wanted to.

Stupid post-eating board! Lemme try again.

I'd allow such position changes, for three reasons:
1) Nothing in the spell's description explicitly forbids teleporting to a location that puts you at a different alignment relative to the ground;
2) It's not a "magic bullet" tactic--that is, it's not so useful that you'll be doing it in every battle and will always gain an advantage over someone who doesn't do it; and
3) I love it when players come up with creative but not overpowering uses for their abilities; it makes the game more fun for everyone.

In fact, unless a DM had a rock-solid rules argument against allowing it, I'd consider it a DMing flaw to forbid it. The default answer to any "Can I...?" question from either a player or an NPC should be "yes," and the default should be changed only on the basis of convincing arguments otherwise.
