Using Multiple Special Materials for a Long Spear

I am thinking about creating a Mithril Shafted, Flame-Touched Iron Headed Long Spear?
Why? you ask. Well, primarily to make the weapon more durable - incase the DM gets any fancy ideas about sundering it, and reducing its weight. My characters strength is 12. :(
How would you price such a beast? Perhaps 8 lbs for the shaft (4000gp?), and still the 1300gp for the head or so?

What are your thoughts about better suited materials for a shaft? Flame Touched Iron is a necessity for the striking area of the weapon for the character.

Code:
Long Spear	5 gp	1d6	1d8	×3	—	9 lb.	Piercing

Sounds fair to me. FYI, the ironwood spell might be better than paying for mithril; ask your DM if you can buy that spell from the local NPC druid...660 gp for a 6th level spell is a lot cheaper than 4,000 gp worth of mithril (and at caster level 11, you can strengthen up to 55 pounds of wooden gear at the same time...so be sure to take along your wooden shield, axe handles, arrows, clubs...)

Be advised, your enemies have other clever (and less complicated) ways of removing the item from your posession, no matter what material you craft it out of. It could be as flashy as a heat metal or polymorph any object spell, or as mundane as a minotaur tackling you and prying it from your hands. Or if your DM is Lawful Evil, he could send you into a nest of rust monsters...

Sundering should be the least of your worries, if your Str is only 12. ;) Get that thing enchanted to at least +1 as soon as you can afford to (magic items resist magic attacks better), invest in a good set of locking gauntlets, and buff that Strength score. The ~6K you are about to spend on your weapon could probably be better spent on locking gauntlets of ogre power.

Interesting thoughts....
the 4000gp was a little bit out of my price range at this point. I am kind of looking at the near future.

Iron wood. The only problem is duration. 1 day/level, however it almost seems to be a freeway to gain masterwork and a magic +1....
Perhaps enchant it to be used once a day?
I wonder if there is a price set somewhere for Ironwood as as permanent material?

Locking Gauntlets for this character isn't quite my style, but you do have a point, especially with the strength score buffing. I am am in definite need of that. I will take a look at the gauntlet idea.

For the love of all that is holy, what have you done.! ;)

I talked to my DM and he is allowing me to forge it like this:

"Truth, not Tolerance" (2305gp, 5lbs, Master Worked Flame-Touched Long Spear)
Flame-Touched Iron head (~1lb), Mithril shaft (~8lbs base - reduced down to 4 lbs afterwards)
Code:
[B]Cost Break Down[/B]
Flame-Touched Iron Head 1000gp + MW 300gp
Mithril Shaft 1000gp
Base Price 5gp

There is no specific pricing for weapons, and a chain shirt (25lbs) can be made with made with mithril, which I am sure is a much more difficult process, than a straight shaft, so the DM let me use the price for Light Armor (1000gp). Yea!

Seems reasonable?
