So, it begs the question, was he 5'6" with or wthout his head? ;)
If it was just a be-heading, would they have buried his head with his body?

Sometimes people would not have the opportunity to ... err ... recover the head. Either it would be placed on a pole atop stockades or walls somewhere, or thrown outside the cities to animals for devouring, etc., etc. Usually such things were to "drive home the message" or what not, of course.

So whatever remained would then be buried.

Glad you said it and not me ... he was in Rome in the first century AD, as far as I remember: I guess he could have travelled to Britain, eh?
