Combat Staking
My (never used) house rules for combat staking are as follows:
A Wooden Stake is a Small Exotic Weapon that does 1d4 piercing damage, 20/x2
If a single Wooden Stake attack against a vampire deals 10, 15, or 20 points of damage, depending on the strength of the vampire, the vampire is staked and killed.
For the purposes of this rule, roll critical hit confirmations and damage against the vampire. However, if the threshold is not passed, the stake deals non critical damage only.
The purpose of these rules was to make my NPC Monk vampire hunter (with Imp Crit and a high STR) potentially able to stake vampires in combat, but keep the possibility out of reach of PCs except under extreme circumstances.
However, the campaign never quite found the vampire colony in Pandemonium, or on the darkside of an asteroid in Wildspace, so I didn't get to see them in actual combat.
