"Power At Any Cost", indeed.

Remember, guys, this is why we have Mage Hand, and portable extradimensional containment options.

Found A Piece? (the checklist):

1. Don't touch it (No, not even if your pee-pee is missing.)

2. Stick it in the P. hole so it can't whisper to you.

3. Get it to an Artificer immediately, so she can break it down into raw xp safely.

4. Have your Magic Item Wish List ready. One big item is best. Try not to request items you insert under your skin, or clamp onto your head, just to be sure. No MagiProsthetic Limbs. (See 1.)

5. Always be polite to your new best friend, the Artificer. But be prepared to restrain them from lopping off a hand, or plucking out an eye, or.. well, just be ready to stop them from making the Piece part of themselves. They'd thank you, if they could.

Great. Now I want the dingle of Vecna.

Thanks. Thanks A LOT.

Among the fingernail and scalp of Vecna, among others, the peepee of Vecna wouldn't have looked all that out of place that in the goofy list of bodyparts in Die Vecna Die. ;)

And I voted god.

I voted demi-god. However, my world is homebrew and my cosmology doesn't really resemble any of the current models. Demi-gods are a dime-a-dozen in my world; there are no churches dedicated to them, (though raggedy prophets shouting out messages, from a "god" that no one else has ever heard of before, on the street corner aren't uncommon), and official churches don't even view them as being truely divine. The fact that these prophets can wield divine magic irritates the official churches to no end.

I'd really rather not stick Vecna's member in my "portable hole" if it's all the same.

I like polls. :)

Venca is a god, but because that's what the PHB calls him.

Yea, or so a cultist of Vecna would have you believe! :) In fact these are the same great minds that invented the dire flail, so clearly they were just trying to get good heroes to kill themselves with comically implausible weapons so that they could take over the world.

When the adventure- I think it was Die, Vecna, Die- came out, I ignored it. It was a dreadful story, taking creative liberties with settings that I didn't want to see taken.

But in 3E, Vecna is by default a god in the core pantheon. He's right there in the PHB; the majority of players now don't know much about him save that he is a god in the PHB. As satisfying as it would be to make Vecna a lich again, it's a major removal from the core rules and it's hard to justify.

Still, I feel pretty strongly that Vecna was more compelling as a villain than he has been as a god. For the most part he just never comes up.
