Villains & Vigilantes is BACK!

Right, those ads - they gave the character's stats, which was pretty neat. The dim recesses of my brain tell me there was another character shown, some kind of rocker with sonic-based powers?

Don't forget Kali and her power-chuks.

Some of my greatest RPG memories are from our extensive V&V campaign. FORCE turned half our team to the dark side with his boosted Charisma.

Thanks for the memories Jeff.

Same guy. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but my only problem with the artwork is there isn't enough of it.
I would LOVE a LL Annual that does nothing but include all the old comic strips, including the ones from the 1E of V&V (the white book). There's a lot of neat bits in those, and let's not forget the very first incarnations of Bill Willingham's Elementals (which are probably not available due to the rights madness he still has going, as far as I know, with his old publisher).

I recently bought a copy of V&V. I love this system. It introduced me to roleplaying in the back of the church van when I was 12 on the way to a service trip to Kentucky. That was almost 20 years ago....

Also an old timer that V&V was the 2nd RPG my group played and the longest running campaign. The one thing that V&V did that blew all other superhero games out of the water (in my opinion) was that the characters were not remotely balanced. We had one character in our group with 2 powers and one with 5. But that worked because of the superhero genre, where few if any Comicbook teams had any sembalance of balance.

Being a point based construction, I am sure LL departs from this, but I will still be checking it out.

I've only done a quick skim so far, but it looks like unbalanced characters are still quite possible - the point-based system has random tables you can use if you like, so just use the tables and ignore the points.

My first impression is the mechanics look very much like a hybrid of V&V and Champions. It'll take some playtesting for me to figure out whether I like this or not, but I got a nice nostalgia vibe from looking it over.

I recall this as well, my Friend Mike and his borther Neil were orginal players in my Cascade City campaign, and Mike rolled (if memory serves) Invulnerability, Enhanced Str B, Adaption and Heightened Speed. If He'd got flight he'd have been Superman:)

Neil rolled Infrared Vision Device, and Heightened Charisma A. That was it.

He was a Cute guy with Nightvision goggles.

To say the guy was relegated to the sidekick role was an understatement.

There were also some interesting min/max opportunities in the figured characteristics. If memory serves, the first character our group had with over 100 hit points was an accident of lucky rolls. We had a house rule to allow players to choose some or all of their powers, so the next few... not so accidental ;) .

Well, the cover can't be Dee. Way too flat. Some of the small interior art is, and it is nice, if small.
