D&D 5E Volo's Guide, limited edition impressions

Sacrosanct: While everyone else is gawking over the front cover, I'm rather intrigued to know what the spine looks like. Does it match that of the rest of the 5e books, or is it different? What about the back cover?

I guess the spine looks normal. Just a thicker cardstock I guess? As I mentioned, it feels a bit felt/suede like. The back cover is the same as the front cover, just zoomed out a bit. Very beautiful.

Interesting. Thanks.

Whoa. That is quite different. As cool as the alt cover looks, I'm kinda glad I'll be getting the regular version, as I like how the 5e books look on my shelf.

After reading in greater detail, and putting on my optimizer hat, I see great synergy with a bugbear PC using polearm mastery and sentinel feats. Bugbears have a long limbed feature, extending the reach of all melee attacks by 5ft.

Another really interesting feature is the goblin's fury of the small. Once per short or long rest, if you hit a target with an attack or spell and it's bigger than you, you add your level to damage.

Bugbear long-limped only works when you take the attack action. So you don't have 15ft reach on your opponents turns.

As I said in another thread, since it seems from the introduction to Chapter 1 that they plan on making further books of this type, I'm wondering if we'll have a series of "Volo's Guide to..." books, all with this sort of variant cover. You have to agree that four or five of this type of book altogether on a shelf would look pretty awesome...
