You might want to design some cost to benefit parameters to define the effectiveness of a spell. Casting something effective at lower levels is good for obvious reasons, as you mentioned, so in that context,I'd go second as well, especially considering I like to play Outsiders (like in my Tiefling wizard thread) which makes Alter Self that much more absurd at ecl4.

I usually ban spells with XP cost... Not all, you understand, but wish/miracle and similar are not for player use IMHO. Would be if players didn't want to cheese everything.

People will bitch about things without really taking into account how amazing those things are.

Like people complaining about air travel, again forgetting that air travel is them sitting in a chair in the sky.


The same could be said of some of these spells. We kind of take for granted how absolutely amazing these things are. I mean for real, imagine how much havoc you could cause in the real world just being able to cast a single one level spell once per day. Charm person immediately comes to mind.

The power you'd have at your fingertips would be staggering.
