FAQ: Why didn't [insert my favourite villain] make it into the finals? Because you didn't nominate them. Honourable mentions go to Iuz, Grazzt, Demogorgon, and Azalin, who didn't manage to get a nomination.

Yeah, I counted 11 I'd never heard of, including Bargle (at least if I say I'd never heard of them before the nomination thread, where I learned apparently he killed some woman? Because women in fridges was still a popular trope at the time I guess?)

Yeah, nah Aleena is the NPC guide in the Basic Set Tutorial Adventure, she’s a cleric who introduces the PC to monsters, combat and spells and then gets removed from the game in order to teach us that sometimes people die - her death is more akin to Obiwan Kenobi’s death than a hapless fridging

The PC carries her back to town for burial but unknown to him she is in fact ressurected

Yeah, Iuz should have been on the list. I voted for Vecna - at least one Greyhawk villain.
Oh there are still plenty of Greyhawk villains on there! :) Acererak is a great big classic Greyhawk baddie, as well as Kyuss, Rary, and Vecna. (I'm just glad all that stuff about Robilar was finally cleared up; even though good (bad) ol' Lord Robilar is Lawful Evil he's not really a "villain.") And technically Lolth as well, even though she was essentially co-opted by the 'Realms. But I much prefer her as originally presented, as a Demon Lord rather than a (Greater) Goddess. (AKA Aracne, the name by which she is known to humans... I do like her having more than just 66 Hit Points, though!;)) I like having my Dark Elves worship Demons. But since I still go with the 1E Deities & Demigods concept of Demon Lords being equal to a Lesser God on their home plane it really doesn't make all that much difference to me; she can be both a Demon Lord and a (Lesser) Goddess.

And since Tharizdun has been portrayed as basically kind of being the Big Bad of the D&D Multiverse (whom all the other deities in the cosmos team up with each other, regardless of Alignment, just to keep imprisoned) I'm not too worried about a lack of Greyhawk representation on the list... Tharizdun just plain outranks all the others. o_O(y)

I was tempted to vote for Kyuss as well. He may not be well-known among D&D players nowadays, but he was always suitably "yucky" with all of his maggoty stuff.

I would say the second Dragonlance trilogy is where he transformed from antihero (jerkwad edgelord) to villain. He did some terrible things in his quest for godhood, using and manipulating his friends and his brother, not caring about anyone but himself. Had he succeeded, he would've turned Krynn into a wasteland. Even though he had a last-minute redemption, I still count him the villain of the tale.

It’s odd to me that Raistlin got nominated and gets several votes. Since when is he a villain?
