Oh yeah, incomplete characters is another thing entirely.
That is only "deadly" with multiple encounters per day. A solo threat would take 75-100% of your daily XP budget. So that is 30,000-40,000 XP* per 20th lvl character. So Vecna is a solo threat to 3, maybe 4, 20th level PCs. Of course that is just by the RAW numbers, what is truly a threat varies by party composition, terrain, and how a monster is played.A challenge rating 26 is a Deadly encounter for a party of four 20th-level PCs. That is a solo threat IMO anyway...
Level 20 Deadly XP Threshold is 12,700 XP
Times four PCs is 50,800 XP
A single monster is a X1 multiplier (at CR 26 Vecna is worth 90,000 XP).
Since 90,000 is definitely greater than 50,800, it is a deadly encounter.![]()
But, it isn't--the spell has already been cast and is "held" until released.I am not sure if the Cast and Release thing would be immune to counterspell. Releasing it could still be considered part of casting it.
We can discuss this later, but I disagree (could be wrong...?).That is only "deadly" with multiple encounters per day. A solo threat would take 75-100% of your daily XP budget. Thank you. But, it isn't--the spell has already been cast and is "held" until released.

So, I cast it, with total cover since Vecna has no line of sight (and can't counterspell), move, and release when the trigger is satisfied.

Can you move me to the correct position? Two square to the left should do it I think.Anything else before I have Vecna take his turn?
Arthur's player's account is knocked out, so that explains him never finishing the character. Someone want to jump in and whip up their own version of the Paladin? Also, the Paladin Arthur is not finished. He is lacking skills and prepared spells.
Someone should probably finish making the paladin before his turn comes up LOL!![]()
Again, can you please indicate rolls since we aren't rolling for ourselves? Saving throws, damage, etc. I can see some rolls in the screen shots, but not everything. Thanks! So Hjalman is frightened though he can shake that off come his turn.
We are both right actually. However I will DM you as not to derail this thread. We can discuss this later, but I disagree (could be wrong...?).
For reference, see Combat Encounter Difficulty and Evaluating Encounter Difficulty (DMG p. 82), right before your table.![]()
Unless a spell or effect says to goes "around cover" (for example, fireball: The fire spreads around corners.) it doesn't. I agree with him, you are safe (for now MWAHAHAHAHA!!!I notice that the description for Flight of the Damned says "Vecna conjures a torrent of flying, spectral entities that fill a 120-foot cone and pass through all creatures in that area before dissipating". I don't know about RAW, but RAI seems to me like they'd go right through the pillar, too. (based on the words "fill" and "pass through". Doesn't seem to me like the pillar would stop 'em, even if it would normally provide cover from a cone.
