W1: Blacklily Violence (Completed!) [Rae Judging]

Conuld looks flustered by Pendrake's comments. "I do not need to lie. But... do you really think the guards are corrupt? There would be nothing to be gained from submitting to their judgement, in that case. We know enough now to report our findings to Cassus Arimae, and let him arrange for the thieves' gang to be rounded up by the authorities. And yet, that was not our commission. Should we not fulfil its terms precisely, to obtain our promised compensation? Which we cannot do if we are arrested here. And informing the authorities may prevent us from ever taking any further action against the Blacklilies. Cassus did not choose to involve the authorities at the beginning, which he could have done, if he thought that was the best course. Should our loyalty to our employer prevent us from doing so now? Argh, I am talking myself in circles."
Conuld takes a deep breath and sighs. "Pendrake is right. We are not tricky. We should start to be. We have one live Blacklily right here. Saithnar, you said you had powers of persuasion. Can you... do something to him to make him cooperative? If so, let's take him and go. We can turn ourselves in to the authorities when we're done."

[sblock=OOC]Way to go, team! :) Though I was really looking forward to what the ladies would have said in response to my last post, this works nicely too.[/sblock]

Tommy stares at the dead man for a while, lost in thought. He looks so... still. We had no choice, but I wish there had been another way... At last he looks up and catches the thread of the conversation.

"Even if we report these criminals to the authorities and see justice done, it may still not be sufficient to recover the Arimae necklace. I believe we must act quickly if we are to fulfill our commission."

"Yes... yes," says Conuld, increasingly happy to hear logical reasons to put distance between himself and the corpse of Fenton Nask.
[sblock=OOC] Welcome back![/sblock]

In most cases, I would have to agree, staying for the guard to get here would be the most lawful and true thing to do here. But in the interest of the mission... I believe it best YOU all go, I will stay and deal with the guards, I don't want to hear argument about it. I am as I said a man of faith, if they cannot take my word then you all need to clear my name and have me freed from the jail. One of us must stay as a sign of good faith, if we all go it will look even more suspicious. Rathan spoke up with his words.. it seemed he grew a backbone after all. His healing prowess was not much to be noted as it was and he in good mind could not let the others be stopped in their mission. Someone had to lay down and wait for the guard to speak the truth... and he figured as he watched the entire thing from start to finish... he would be the one to do so.... go on... go quickly they'll be here any moment. I will find you all... somehow.

"But you were an onlooker only! Still... I think of all of us, you are the one they would be most likely to listen to, Rathan," says Conuld.

"Your arguments are persuasive, and I agree that the testimony of a bystander of good character such as yourself will be helpful. However, I must stress that I find it unlikely that the next person coming through that door..." Tommy points at the tavern door. "...will be a guard investigating a killing. A Blacklily with a loaded crossbow and a grudge is much more likely. If you feel you must inform the guards immediately of what transpired here, by all means do so, but don't wait here for them. Seek them out."

"Speaking of which," says Conuld, turning to the barkeeper, "is there another way out of this tavern? I think a low profile exit might be in order."

OOC: So sorry I've been absent. My internet connection at home has been off for the last week and I've been struggling to get to the library to use their lousy systems when I can. Hopefully be back up to speed by midweek...

"I could indeed attampt to charm the thief, IF he was conscious. But that would use some of my power and some of another's to bring him awake. By my estimate, we will get no more out of him than what the bartender already told us about where to go and what to say. I vote for leaving ...ALL OF US leaving friend Rathan, and cleaning up this particular mess later. We know that the blacklillies themselves will attempt more personal revenge so the odds of them reporting this to the authorities is slight. Others will though, so we should make ourselves scarce and explain our side of it later when our mission is complete." Saithnar finishes with the longest speech he's ever given since his remaking...

OOC: If instead of leaving, someone wants to heal the rogue up and have me try to charm him, I will. The save Will save DC would be 14.

OOC: Listen Checks, everyone! Lemme know if you beat a DC of 18.

The bartender quickly looks at Conuld. "back door? Yes. In the storage room. Glad to see you guys are finally talking some sense."
